What's the best price on TRD headers?

What's the best current deal on TRD headers for a '96 4runner 3.4? I'm having a hard time getting replies or finding some place that has them in stock. Since my truck's up on jackstands time is somewhat of the essence.

Try Toyota of Dallas (Strap22) here on YT. They should have the best price.

You sure you want headers Steve? They are such a pain and so expensive for what you get out of them.

I'v got my tranny on the ground and it looks as if it would be alot easier to do now.

Yeah, the R&R will be easier. In fact, you might be able to unbolt the crossover and salvage it and the manifolds for later. Still, the gains are questionable for the amount of dough you have to put down. Plus you get more valve noise...at least I did.

Figure $700 or so for the TRDs. Another option is to get the Edelbrocks like I did for $350 and have them HPC'd for $175.

Edelbrock doesn't list headers for Toyotas on their site and I couldn't find them on the net either. I did find Downey's however. Access to the stock manifolds and crossover is pretty wide open from below right now. I can get a deal locally on ceramic as we deal with a powder coater who deals with ceramic coater. No shipping charges to deal with. As far as the noise I'd be curious what others have experienced. Two of the guys I work with have headers on their cars (not 4Runners) and havn't mentioned it. Both have had ceramic coating.

theres just so many header threads and not enough info.

besides trd, downey and edelbrock what other companies make headers for our 3.4's. im looking to get some at the end of summer along with replacing my stock cat, because i made a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust awhile back

any good writeups w pics on whats needed for the install?

looked and found JBA and pacesetter make some too.

how do you know if you need ones with the egr valve option or not also?

even pictures of different brands including the ones we already listed before install. seems like no site actualy has a picture of the real unit youd be buying.

Pacesetter is junky. As for the EGR question, I would probably inquire of the manufacturer directly about that. For example, if you get JBA headers from Summit Racing, contact JBA prior to making the purchase. I was able to dig through some layers of management at Edelbrock and ended up speaking with one of the design engineers in person. It can be done. By the way, Summit Racing might be a good place to go with; free ground shipping and a decent return policy. Simply add $10 on to the price you see for handling and that's it. If for some reason the headers didn't have the EGR port, just return them. Summit is cool about that.

FWIW, my headers have the EGR port, but it's blocked off because 4Runners don't have an EGR system. I suspect the JBA's will have what you need.

Appearantly TRD no longer produces the headers for a '96 4Runner. Does anyone have first hand experience to know what is different about a TRD '96 Tacoma header system??? According to the info I can find JBA doesn't make headers for my truck either. I still think I want the TRD's as they are generally regarded as the best.

OK, from what I've read, Thorley makes the TRD headers. The Thorley website lists an application for the '96 4Runner. Does anyone know anything about these??? I can get them for cost so this might be my best option yet if they are comparable to the TRD's and will work out OK on my truck.

You will need to weld on a flange if you are putting these on your 4R. Keep that in mind. I had mine done at Midas for $25 cash.

The same guy who will sell me the thorleys at cost said he will also build (if I want) a custom exhaust with new cat for about $500. He says 3'' pipe would be best because of flow and that I told him that I want it to be as quiet as poss. but I havn't made any decisions yet. I kind of like the quiet Dynomax muff.

3'' pipe is not going to work well with a n/a 3.4 i would go with 2-1/2'' pipe all the way back to a 24'' magnaflow muffler that should be pretty quiet

I haven't put much on my signature yet but i'm in the early stages of what I believe to be quite a few mods all at once. S/C, injectors, URD piggyback, etc. so that might make the size make more sense. It sounded too big to me too, But I don't do exhaust for a living

a good mandrel bent 2-1/2'' exhaust system is what works well with a s/c and 3'' will work better with a turbo

I second the 2.5" idea. I think Mark (midiwall) went 3" and was very disappointed, so he switched back.
