What would it take to make her streetlegal?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true Its only 15 minutes from my house. I know the 39.5 tires are to big, ide have to lower that to 38 inch tires. The lift is to high so ide remove the bodylift. But would the solidaxle pass inspection? Anything else? After i did the above, would it be a good dailydriver?

the guy lives up the street, its a trailer queen. Never drives it on the road. He trailers it to the pit, and barely does anything at all. He aid he doesnt even try to get it inspected...But i dont think it woud pass anyway

OK, well I would look up the NJ inspection criteria and start going down the list. Every state is a little different so you could get a multitude of answers on here. If I remember right, NJ is fairly stringent (I was born there).

ea they are strict. I know tires cant be over 38 inches, and they dont liek frame mods, so that woudl include the SolidAxle SWAP. It is also lifted to high. I think i'll keep lookin. By the time i soend the money to get it legal, I coudl by a newer tacoma and build it up.

i was going to say that.... it would pass for CA.... there are trucks going around here with 44s on them, toyotas even and they dont get hassled as long as they have lights, and mudflaps....

Yeah, I was gonna say it would be legal in Oregon. Also, 39s and 4:88s isnt' good.
I think the CA bumper height law is 28", not 58". Not much point in preventing trucks from being over 10 feet tall.....

Wow, 54" for headlights! But look a the frame...
These are sections right out of the California Vehicle Code: 24008.5
No person shall operate any motor vehicle with a frame height or body floor height greater than specified in subdivisions (b) and (c).
(b) The maximum frame height is as follows:
Vehicle Type Frame Height
(1) Passenger vehicles, except housecars ... 23 inches
(2) All other motor vehicles, including housecars, as follows:
Up to 4,500 pounds GVWR ......... 27 inches
4,501 to 7,500 pounds GVWR ..... 30 inches
7,501 to 10,000 pounds GVWR .... 31 inches
(c) The lowest portion of the body floor shall not be more than
five inches above the top of the frame.
(d) The following definitions govern the contruction of this
section:
(1) "Frame" means the main longitudinal structural members of the
chassis of the vehicle or, for vehicles with unitized body
construction, the lowest main longitudinal structural members
of the body of the vehicle.
(2) "Frame height" means the vertical distance between the ground
and the lowest point on the frame, measured when the vehicle is
unladen on a level surface at the lowest point on the frame.
Pick-ups usually fall into the 4,501 to 7,500 GVWR category. Suburbans make the next category.

Another area that people get into trouble when lifting a truck in California is the height of their lights. Some other sections that may interest you are:
24400 VC.....Headlights must be between 22 and 54" from the ground to the center of the light.
24402 VC.....Driving/Passing lamps must be 24 to 42" from the ground.
There are others, but these are the most commonly violated. Most of the time guys-girls are having problems with big lifts and 44" tires. Usually with 40" tires they can squeek by.

That is one damn cool truck and a steal for 6k for what was put into it. Here in Oregon the only thing you would need to make the cops happy is some fender frairs and some huge semi truck mud flaps. A fried of mine has a fird on 39.5s with 12 lift and he doesn't even have the fender flairs! He hasn't had a problem yet. Just depends on the state and local cops.

my buddy and local wheeling guy, runs 38's on toyota running gear with a 22re.... just runs upgraded birfields..... not much elase beside front and rear locker and 4 link with fox air shocks in the rear, did i mention the bitch is capable?

i don't have much to doubt about the rear axle, but the front is a different matter. 38s is pushing it(unless you have bobby long's new 30 spine chromo set of birfields and inners) but anything above 37 on a streeted rig is kind of lame. what gears does that thing run...5.71s?
