What should I do SAS my 95 4Runner or buy this 80 pick-up?

When I was on my way to pick up my 84 axle that I planned to use for the SAS on my 95 4Runner I saw a 1980 pickup in this guys yard. I stopped and asked if it was for sale. He said yes he’s been trying to sell it for some time. So I asked the price and he said he waited 1300 for it. I asked if I offer you cash would you take less he sounded like he would but said he had to go and asked if I could come back after 5 pm.

What would you do buy the truck or SAS a 95 4Runner?

I have the money for either.

EDIT: Just reread this post and it has some errors. I was so excited about the truck.

I think that if the 80 runs and drives go buy it and if you still want the SAS now you have a truck to tool around in while your other is down doing the SAS giving you time to do the SAS to your likeing with out haveing to worry about not haveing a rig to wheel ......just a thought

Well I’m now the proud owner of a 1980 Toyota regular bed pick-up. Its bone stock with a 22r (runs good). The frame is in very good shape, I couldn’t find any major rust on it. The bed has some rust and the inside of the cab has some bubble spots.

I’m going to make the 80 the fun machine but I still plain to SAS my 4Runner in another year or so for now it’ll just be the nice mall wheeler.

I also purchased an 84 with a 22r (hole in the block) from another guy. The body is in bad shape; the frame is in ok shape and the transmission, transfer case and axle are in good shape plus I can use parts off the engine for the 80. I’m planning to use the 84 axle on the 80 for now.

Watch for the build up thread (the fun starts next week). I’ve got about 30 days until the next Tellico trip to have it ready to make it up SlickRock at least.

Don't let them know it. I've got big plains for it.

The plains I have for the 4Runner still stand just delayed.

The 4Runner is just going to be a mall rover for at least a year. No $$$$$$ to build both. I still want a capable 2nd gen 4Runner. The 80 build starts next week. I'm calling it Project "still thinking" (got any good project names).

The 80 will be a nice looking rock eating machine. It'll have a cheap but good paint job, I'm going to do a 2nd gen dash swap. Damn I need to start a build thead.

Come on big baller... I know you have a ton of cash to do both, you're just being modest! heh heh. Honestly... I think the '80 would be cool... but then again, you have your Camry for the mall roving and you're 4runner is yearning for the trails. Do the SAS and tear up Heeps that think they are the ˟˟˟˟˟.

Oh yea, I'm big ballin and the ladies call me big papa. LMAO!

I’ll tear up Heeps with the 4Runner on 31” All Terrains any day of the week. I’m still going to SAS the Runner and motor swap it and all, just not this year.

Kevin, you’re making me feel bad about making the Runner a mini rock wheeler. I can hear it crying now. Well at least I’m not selling it to some family with 10 kids that’ll use it to take them to school and stuff.

I’m making a promise to it right now to at least take it out and beat on it (the 4Runner - you nasty minded person) once a month.

EDIT: For the nasty minded in the yotatech family I'm talking about beating on the 4Runner.

Hahahaha, at least you'll beat it once a month... Uh... the 4Runner. What does your g/f think of all those girls?! hahahah You gotta send me some pics of the projects. Also, I forgot to take the pics of how the wheels stick out, but I'll get them tomorrow. My g/f is going to send out the check tomorrow from her work and you should get it fairly quickly... like by Friday hopefully.

Don’t give me anymore project ideas. I think I’ve got enough Toyotas… slap myself, slap myself… what am I thinking… enough Toyotas (moment of insanity there). No one can have too many toys.

The 80 is going to be awesome just wait. I’m going to do a complete frame off after the fall Tellico trip. It’ll almost be too nice to wheel when I’m finished.

I’m still trying to decide if I should bob the bed or do a flat bed with wood panels.

Sounds good.

My g/f is a loner so she doesn’t mind the others. LMAO!

I’ll get pictures of the ’80 tomorrow after work.

I have the same question. I am already thinking about my next 4Runner project and still havent finished my 84 EFI swap. I picked up a 87 runner SR5 for the efi doner, still have the rear end, front calipers, steering box ect. left. Do I buy a 85 and swap the rear end (simpler then doing a SAS swap I would think), add vented rotors, and cross over steering or get a IFS runner and just do the front SAS swap. Which one is the way to go, money (I already have a lot of parts paid for) and simplicity wise.
