Like a lot of you, my timing is advanced 2*. Would it be beneficial for me to run a higher octane gas? I am running the cheap stuff right now (87 octane). Thanks.

You only need to run higher octane if you have pinging. I've got some pinging but I think it's more due to my crappy injectors. So I still run regular but I don't think my timing is quite 12* anymore. After the injector swap (if I ever get it all straightened out) I will probably bump the timing up a little more.

I don't have any pinging, so I guess all is well. Thanks Agrunner.

When I checked mine earlier this summe it was 13 degrees BTDC. I wasn't getting any pinging, but I would get about 1 more MPG with premium. I reset the timing at 12BTDC and it's consistantly getting 19MPG on regular.

With the timing advanced in my '90 3.0, I would run 89 octane or higher if I was going to be towing. The rest of the time, I ran 87 (unless I would get some pinging from a crappy tank).
