what muffler should i get
I'm planning on getting a custom 2 1/2" cat back exhaust put on my 93 v6 4runner. i want a good performance muffler that will definately give a nice noticeable sound, but not sound like a coffee can honda civic exhaust. Just wondering if anyone has a muffler in mind that will fit my wants. Plus i was wondering if i should get a high flow cat or not( if it will make any differance). thanks

i have a spintech that i got for 80$. The guy recommended it over flowmasters, but i havent had both so i cant make any comparisons. Ive been really happy with this muffler, great sound, and noticeable horsepower.

I have both a carsound hi flow cat and a "turbo" muffler with the 2.25" exhuast cat back. (The muffler i think is a dynomax.)
I think I actually lost power until the ECU reset, now it's about the same.....at least the 150 I paid for my exhaust was worth it for the sound. She sounds GREAT with a good growl.
I think you are going to notice a nasty loss going to the 2.5" instead of 2.25" or 2"

The dynomax ultra flow sounds great on my prerunner with the 3.4. Its got a quite note at idle and low rumble during acceleration, on the interstate you cant really hear it but when ya punch it its there in full force. Id recommend it to anyone with this motor.

Where did you guys purchase your mufflers? Are there muffler shops that
have Dynomax, Flowmaster, or MagnaFlow mufflers in stock ready to put on
or did you have to order the muffler yourself and then take it to a muffler
shop to weld on?

I didnt mess with the cat, and the stock pipe on my 01 was 2.5" for the 3.4, so I just kept with that size, I think 2.25 is recommended for 4 bangers and 2.5" for the smaller sixes.

2.25" for the 3.0 V6.
http://www.dynomax.com/techsupport.stm
You will see below the 150 HP V6 runs best with 2.25".
The 3.4 V6 as stated runs best with 2.50" tubing.

is much more muffled than the ultraflow (i.e. quieter). It isn't a straight

that an engine without a turbo or SC would do better with the Turbo design
muffler, you need some backpressure to avoid loosing low end torque.
I'm about to put a Dynomax UltraFlow on my rig. There is a local muffler
shop that stocks them and everyone that has them seems to like them.
