What good is a 2X4 4-Runner? I'm trying to sell it but it looks like I was the only one stupid enough to buy one. Everyone that has called on it can't believe they make a 2 wheel drive 4-Runner. Any suggestions on how to get this thing sold?

It may be your location. Down here in GA there are tons of them. Its harder to try to buy a used 4x4 than a 2x4.

You'd be suprised where you can go in a 2 wheel drive runner...He!! you think all those german staff cars in North Africa (read the Sahara) in WWII were 4 wheel drive...nope

hey i have a 2wd and i get around pretty well. it can be even more fun because in things like mud you lose lots of traction and just spin around and lose control. plus ive found all you really need is a good set of tires, an imagination, a shovel, and some tow straps, and you can have more fun than you could have thought!

Park it in front of a high school with a BIG for sale sign. Arm the alarm, and walk away. It'll either sell or be stolen within 3 days..

A serious answer to your question of who will buy it is... soccer mom, especially if she has a husband that "refuses to get a minivan" regardless of how much smarter that might be for their situation.

Probably best not to advertise in a place prone to folks that want to wheel. For example, if you park it with a sign, put it by a grocery store, not a Home Depot or Auto Parts place.

A lot of 4Runners here in the Southern US are 2WD. We don't have the snow like you do up there so not as much of a need for 4WD. 75% of the 4Runners that I see are 2WD. And a 4WD w/ a factory locker is somewhat rare too.

I would say in CA, a good % of SUV's are 2WD including 4Runner's. I wouldn't see any problems selling it, there is definitely a market for it. But your proposition (what good is a 2WD...) beg's another question.

Your original question insinuates that if it were 4WD it would be better. If that's the case, you can fairly easily adapt your truck to be 4WD. There have been a few people to do this already and many more in the planning stages. Rough numbers are anywhere from $1,200-$2,000 to complete the job. All-told that really isn't very expensive.

If you just want to sell it anyway, I really don't think it will be very hard. Just make sure the price is appropriate for a 2WD.

As Cal said, there's way more 2wd 4runners out here than 4wd. I'd say probably 90% of every 4runner I see on a regular basis out here is 2wd. There's really no need for 4wd out here unless you're into offroading as a hobby.
When I went up to Oregon last winter, 99% of every 4runner and Taco I saw was a 4wd. It's all about location. I'd say just offer a good deal on it and eventually someone will buy it.

At the risk of sounding like an a**, I didn't realize this was a 4x4 only forum. I love my 2wd. Great for commuting. 24mpg on the highway with 130k miles. Comfortable on long trips. Plenty of room for the family and luggage. Remarkably every feature you enjoy, except being able to bury it in a mud hole somewhere and get out on your own. There are a lot of 4 runner owners, yes even men, that don't see the neccesity to go offroad, or even enjoy it for that matter.

Don't mean to vent, but seems a lot of 4x4 owners on this site think thats all there is. I am a member here because it is a great site, and I love 4-runners. I don't ask, "what is a 4x4 good for?" Everyone likes what they like.

Yeah I think it's a regional issue. I believe there are alot more 4x2's in the warmer climates like SoCal/Nevada/Az/etc
It's going to be tougher in WA where people are thinking of the winter snow.

I'm sure you will find a buyer. The 4Runner is a good used vehicle buy in any case.

I think the name throws people off- 4Runner so they assume 4-wheel drive.

i didn't think this thread was bias towards 4x4's. the guy selling the runner was looking for some selling points on a 2x4 cause the people calling his house are asking if it has 4x4, and where he live's (trust me, im 2 minutes from there) there aren't that many people that are looking for a 2x4's. i don't know, maybe i read things different or whatever, i don't know. too much beer, and its only 7:30

I in GA too & have a 4x2 bec:
1. I'll never use 4x4 (it snows maybe 1 or 2 days a year here).
2. 4x4 is an extra 300 lbs dat I won't need
