What did you guys use to mount speakers?
I know my 3rd gen speakers sizes, I just wanted to now what you guys used to fabercate a mounting bracket for your speakers. I am planning on getting Boston Acoustics RC620 component system (6.5) and Boston 5.25 in the rear. Thanks in advanced.

If I remember right, the bracket might be used to reduce the size of the opening so as to fit 5 1/4" speakers in there. This may be part of the "standard sound system" fittings, whereas the "premium sound system" would bypass the reducers.

I went with the Kenwood 6 1/2" front and rear too, but I had to fabricate a mount for it on my 97 tacoma. I used aluminum, it is easy to work with. Just made a hole for the speaker to poke through, then made the holes for the speakers to mount to, then the holes for the mount to bolt up to the old mounting spots in the body.

Sorry, but I think everyone nailed it...use the reducing braket if you are mounting 5.25s or loose the bracket for the 6.5s. If that STILL doesnt work, go to HomeDepot and pick up one of the 1/8" 1'x1' pieces of wood for like 1.50. Then you can fabricate a bracket from that. Or you can use lexan and get creative....

I went to Target and bought one of those plastic 1/4" cutting boards. Whacked the rear speaker plate out witha dremel tool and it popped right in with 5 1/4"

Just a little bit off subject but what I'm getting through the lines here is that you ca fit 6.5" speakers in the rear if you take off the reducing bracket? Or am I just reading this all wrong. I would love to mount some 6.5"s in the rear. Is that possible or is 5.25" as big as it gets back there?

I kept the factory plastic bracket in place -- removed the speakers and wiring, of course...
The width was fine for my speakers, but the depth of the aftermarket speakers was hitting the window rail -- so I used a round MDF spacer, 1/2" thick....
Since the aftermarket speakers' screw holes didn't align up with the factory bracket holes, I just made the wood spacer holes line up with the factory bracket holes.... then screwed the speaker into the wood spacer....
You can buy premade spacers from www.partsexpress.com I believe.... not sure how the holes lie, but it's fairly easy enough to make your own spacer so that you can use the factory bracket....
Seal between the spacer and the bracket and between the speaker and the spacer with silicone....
