Watch who does your Brakes

I lost all braking yesterday:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...299#post605299

Turns out the AHOLE that did my front brakes used a top inside caliper bolt THAT WAS TOO SMALL AND STRIPPED!!!! the caliper was shking back and forth just enough to cause the hardline that attaches to the softline to come lose and dump fluid....AND...when he did the rears a few months before that he never adjusted the E-BRAKE SO...NEEDLESS TO SAY...I HAD ALMOST NO BRAKES!!!! It took about 3/4 of a city block to stop. Luckily i was only a couple blocks from home when it happened and not in freeway traffic at 70 or so....There would have been no way i would have stopped...I may post his name after I get this fixed...Had to hoof it three miles for a bolt and the dealer swears it is a different size....The real giveaway was it says USA on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!

Ok update. My good mech Ed tried to tap the hole in the spindle where the caliper goes on and the thing was egg shaped...broke his tap...Luckily he foud a spindle used for $150 and should have it on by tomorrow after it gets delivered. After I get it fixed I am going to drive by the place and get the name of it to post...Read between the line this has been a day of running around on foot to the tunes of about 12 miles getting parts...thats the way ed works you bring the parts and he fixes it...At least he scored the spindle for me that thing would have cost over $500 I'm sure new...If you happen to be in Escondido California (OR ANYWHERE IN SAN DIEGO FOR THAT MATTER) and need a good reliable mechanic at a good price...Do a phone book search for Eddie's Automotive!!!!

And no this is not board spam!

If you want his number ask here and I'll post it if it's ok with the admins.

I had issues with brakes too, but not that bad. Glad it didn't turn into soemthing serious.

I had to have my brakes replaced 13 times in 2 years on an old car of mine. Glad that is over.

Anyways, I just learned a few weeks ago how to do my own. Very very easy once I got to the second side. I had a few issues with getting a piston back in so I just squeezed with my hands and it worked.
I am the type to kinda panic and think "am I doing this right" all the time on projects. It's annoying to me, but it makes me work with more care.

Yeah that's what ed was saying...there was no need for this guy to even take off the caliper...Know what you mean though I would rather just let the mechs handle it as long as they're competent.

well just glad you guys are here when i can't get to the mech or when i need to find out whats going on so that I can tell the mechs....Gott CYA yourself today with car mechanics unless you know they're good...sheesh what a day. LOL

Oh PS I do know the feeling of alot more care when I do attempt something.

Ok the bad brake guys are Econo Lube and Tune in Escondido, CA next to I-15 on Valley Parkway...Right next to the McDonald's. They even took the calipers off evidently just ot change out pads.

ahhh brake problems, too familiar, but this was my fault. I replaced the front brake pads and rotors a couple months ago, they said that I should replace my rear shoes soon. Well since its hard to go car-less for a day, I never took it in. Well when my steering wheel started shuddering when I braked, I knew exactly what happened, and kicked myself in the butt. Tomorrow I get my truck back, a couple hundred $$ worth of shoes, pads, and to get the rotors turned. Im just thankful that this was all my fault, and nothing is actually wrong with the truck, if you know what I mean, my last car was a pos that had to be jumped EVERY time you started it.

I would send them the bill for it. For us, any combacks gets us a backflag then we do it for free or lose our time if the repair is done by another tech.

Well I still may do all that I really came out ahead on the deal since there were no injuries or dings in the truck, or anything else...We ordered a used spindle and for $150 it came with a new rotor, pads AND a NEW CALIPER on it (now I have extras. hehehe )!!!

And yup....if it says Econo...Avoid it like the plague! An idiot move like the one this tech made in using the wrong bolt can cost lives!!!
