Vortex is on

Got the Vortex muffler put on early last week.

Gotta say...this thing is pretty loud. I wasn't quite prepared for how loud this was...I like it!!! I had my girlfriend drive the rig down my road and back and it sounded like a Chevy with dual 40's was comin down the road. It's got an awesome tone. Let me warn you though, do NOT put a turndown on this thing. At first I thought, ahh what the heck, I'll just have them put a turndown on it so I don't have to see my rusty piping...wow...can you say resonate? It was unbarable inside the cab, it sounded like I had my Infinity subs cranked to the max with a Lil Jon song on repeat...it was crazy!

So needless to say I went back the next day and got new 2.25" piping bent up and a nice 18" chrome tip put on and not only does it look really good, it sounds MUCH better!

I would recommend this muffler to anybody that likes the sound of a V8 exhaust but not for those who just want a subtle deep tone while driving. It's a great muffler though!

Just thought I'd write my own little review on it.

Nice review. I love mine, too. But I only had mine welded into the stock exhaust so I had none of the resonance problems you describe. Nice deep, throaty rumlbe near idle and almost as quiet as stock cruising down the highway.

Must be the size of the engine but I would definitely not call it as quiet as stock on the highway. Regardless, I love it!

Do you have time to record the sound clips during starting, idle, and reviving the engine ? we would like to hear how it sounds like. Thanks

You can hear it at get.to/jason

That's Jason Burtman's site, he's got the sound clips and if you like it, you can order from him too.

Do you feel a little increase in HP and better acceleration with the Vortex muffler installed or it's about the same as stock muffler ?

I'm not sure how much of this is true or if it was just a mental thing but I think I noticed a little bit better low-end torque, and my mileage went from about 18.5 to about 19.5 on average. That's after running 4 thanks of fuel through it on this trip I went on last week.

Overall...I like it. If you do it, definitely put an 18" chrome tip out the back...it really sets the look of the Runner off...atleast it does for mine.

I keep missing these posts.

Cool, yea, it definitely gives some more highway passing power with a little more mileage to boot. Here's a pic of the muffler next to my truck.

I'm telling you guys, the more I drive the Runner the more amazed I am at this muffler! It sounds amazing, I had a guy who drove a Tahoe with dual 40's on it ask me what size V8 I had in the Runner, when I told him it was only a V6 he just about had to change his pants...and Jason B. is the guy to talk to about getting one!

Just a heads up about the turndown...its not really the loudness you notice, its the overall reverbaration(sp?) that you can hear, it gets REALLY annoying if you are on the highway for more than one or two exits...you hear a constant vibrating sound.

Just a warning however!

i bet it still wont reverberate or be as loud as when i didnt have a muffler... jsut ran a pipe about 6" long off the cat and left it there

man i loved that sound.... but i woke up my best friend over 1/4 mile away one morning... she was pissed... so on the muffler went
