Me again... Sorry for the many posts lately. I got back from a year in Iraq a few weeks ago and just bought my new 96 runner and am very excited to get back to tinkering and such. Being new to 4Runners, I am thinking of all sorts of things.

I noticed when I go to brake, it has a very long travel before it starts to grab. But if I pump the brake once or twice, it grabs right away (no more long travel). But between stops it goes back to long travel until I pump it again.

Note: I don't have to pump it to stop. It stops just fine without pumping. It just has the long travel. I accidently pumped it while stopping and noticed pumping it took out the long travel. Hence the question.

Any idea's??

Ever heard of warped rotors "opening" up the calipers a bit thus needing the pumping to close? Just a thought. I don't feel any thumping in the brake pedal that usually accompanies warped rotors.

Mine used to do this aswell. I tried a bunch of things and nothing cured it. I just came to terms with it and eventually got used to it. I Eventually got around to doing the tundra swap this past summer and the pedal is now "regular" again.

First off, thank you for everything you have done.

As fo the brakes, adjust the rear drums a little, all the brake fluid is being used to push the shoes out. Then once the shoes are out there is pressure for the front. Has worked great on both my 02 and my sisters 96.

hmmm

soft pedal almost always means air in the lines-back east that means water too-I highly recommend an entire system brake fluid flush. Not difficult to do with enough help-I use 3 people for my low buck method.

Or just take it to a shop should be around $35 or so not much more.
