ugraded MAF sensor
is it possible to put a 99 and newer maf sensor in a 98 and older model? with some kind of fuel computer, safc/urd console.....
i mean as long as the new sensor has all the same functions. such as temp, signal wire and specified air flow ratings.
it would be nice to put one in my 98 4runner to get rid of the restrictive one that i have and put one that i can just insert in the tube. and i work at toyota so they come by the dozen....

There are a few options.
1) Install a Supra MAF

2) Modify the MAF to flow better (basically cut off the restrictive front end)

3) Rewire the connector for a 99-02 MAF

Bottom line here, is it worth the effort to do a Supra swap on a 96-98 non-supercharged engine? What are the pros to this mod? How do you accomplish resetting and calibration of the new MAF with the ECU? What are the Cons? Seems the issue of doing this is for more power and better fuel economy. That is even more applicable now then in 2006. Would love to hear reports from anyone who had done this or from anyone who investigated this and decided not to do it and why. Thanks

yeah exactly, no one sells the 96-98 intakes nearly as commonly as the newer ones. plus the restriction sucks. i bought a S-AFC II and getting the maf sensor and removing the cat with a test pipe then im headed to the dyno to tune it all up. i let you know how that goes if your interested.....
