Two Unrelated Odd problems, just read this.

It has been a long time since I have posted in the tech forums. Well because there is hardly ever anything wrong with the 4runner/

The first problem i have posted about before with no help. not that you all didnt try its just really really weird. Every so often the truck will not start. It will crank and come very very close to starting. I have come to find the easy fix is to simply take off the number one spark plug wire from the disribuator and it will start right up. Wait a few secs for the rpms to drop to normal turn it off, re attach wire and the truck is ready to go.

It works everytime And i have no idea why.

The second problem I nocted after driving 100 miles. I droped my cell phon and picked it up, and in doing so i touched the shaft of the transfercase shifter and it was HOT. not warm but very very hot. I stoped to make sure i didnt accidently have it in 4wheel drive, and i didnt. I got out and felt the t case but it was fine too. THis one had got me stumped as well.

Any imput or idea on either or both these things would be great.

it only has 215,000 miles on it so its like brand new.

I have the same problem with my 1991 4Runner. The T-Case shifter is HOT Im going to replace the fluid this week as I have a small leak at the oil seal. I will be putting in some better t-case fluid ( maybe syntechic and some Lucus oil) Ill let you know if that fixes it or not !

starting problem- I had a similar staring problem with my 96 Taco V6, it started at 50,000 miles. Intermittant problem was from worn starter contacts.
New contacts at stealer were $12 cdn one hour is plenty of time. There is an awesome step-by-step procedure on the web; http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/starter/
Hope this helps.
