Has anyone done this with xd hoss wheels with the 231 calipers thinking about doing this since I can get all the parts for 275 and I have them in stock at my store. Thanks

OK so it's close to time to do my brakes and I'm gonna do the Tundra upgrade. Based on what I've read in the forum so far, Autozone is the place to go for the calipers, rotors and pads. Napa had poor quality parts and I didn't see any reviews on Oreilly's/Schucks. I stopped at Oreilly's, cause besides Napa that's the only place in town that sells parts, and they had both the 199mm and the 231mm sizes available. If Autozone is that much better, I can travel the 45 miles to get to Autozone. Is the Autozone parts that much better in quality that I should get the parts there ? And do I need spacers for these rims to fit with the upgrade ?
And those are 16" rims that were on the truck when I bought it 6 months ago from a dealership. I know some people have just trimmed the rims to fits but doesn't that throw off the balance ?

I bought the Autozone reman 231 calipers, Akebono pads and spacers for my LC wheels. I also bought new brake lines while I'm at it. Just painted the calipers black this weekend and if the weather breaks for me I'll be able to get started. You shouldn't have any problems with the AZ parts but for rotors I ordered Brembo blanks from WorldPac.

I can confirm 100% that those wheels clear the 231's with room to spare... no spacers, no modifications.
I put a set of 231's on my Wife's 2000 4Runner this week, and had those wheels installed w/some new tires. There's a ton of room between the wheels and the calipers.

Well I started on my upgrade after work Tuesday tearing things apart. Had to clearance the backing plate like the pics in the links and also the rotor made slight contact on the inside edge with the backing plate. Some Dremel magic and no more noise.
Hoping to finish up tonight, have to put a new wheel bearing in the passenger side while it's torn apart, replacing the UBJ too. Nice to work at a shop and have access to a press!
I put new Stoptech braided steel lines on mine too, the original rubber hoses were dry rotted and nasty looking.
I probably could've gotten away with a 1/4" spacer so the LC wheels would clear but I already had 1/2" spacers (didn't have to cut my wheel studs either). I may take my spare LC wheel and practice on clearancing the inside. I think it will be similar to grinding down the split 3 spoke wheels but I'll get pics on these when I do it for anybody interested. Not positive on that but I don't think much has to come off of the wheel at all.
Super easy upgrade so far, definitely recommended for anybody considering this. All you need are some tools and a good set of brains!

I've been looking for some calipers to do my brake upgrade and finally found some 231 that are out of a 2002 Tundra. Do you know if these will work? Also does it have to be off a 4x4 or will 2x4 to work?

13WL is the 231mm for sure. I think 13WE is the 199mm. This will be stamped on the caliper. I'm assuming you have not read all of the write ups on the upgrade b/c this is clearly stated b/c I believe partway through 02 Toyota switched from the 199mm to 231mm.

You're welcome. Easy install and worth every penny in my opinion. Mine should be finished tonight with any luck.
We're having issues pressing in my new wheel bearing, can't get the spacer to seat to the ABS ring completely. Already have the new ball joint in (PITA BTW) so hoping to put it all together tonight. Then shoes tomorrow if the weather holds off.

LC80 wheels will fit, with some work
OK, so I finally had a chance to start grinding on my spare LC80 wheel. I was wanting to see if I could clearance them enough and it worked. I ground off probably 2/8-3/8 of the wheel to fit. It's very close but it worked out very well and I'm going to finish grinding so I can remove the 1" wheel spacers I have. The 1" pushed out the wheel far enough that I'll rub when pulling out of my driveway when I drop off the curb and when pulling in while turning.
So for all of you guys with LC80 wheels you can clearance them to fit the 231mm calipers. Similar grinding like on the split 3 spoke wheels but it will fit.

Terminator, do you have any pics of the grinding you did on the split 3's? If grinding wasn't an option, what size of spacer is required.... ie. 1/2" etc....

Pretty sure there are posts in this thread that show what you have to grind on the split 3 spoke wheels. I have LC80 wheels as shown in the pics above and the split 3 spoke wheels you have to grind similar to what I did. Or a 1/2" spacer or greater will work.
