My 5100's arrived yesterday and my Tundra TRD springs should be here today along with my new spring isolators. 2/1/14 Update: all parts are here!!

Here's my rig: 96 4Runner Ltd. V6, TJM T15 with Warn M8000. I currently have a 2" Cornfed spacer lift and a 2" body lift and would at least like to retain the 2" suspension lift after the 5100's are installed. I also have a diff drop kit installed.

Soooo, with that being said what recommendations do you all have on the spring perch for the 5100's? I've read middle setting and one notch above the middle setting but I figure that since I have a Warn M8000 and T15 I need to go one notch above the middle.

For the rear I'll be running the LC coils and currently have OME shocks (will change to Tundra Bilstein shocks later).

It's mainly my DD but I do take the occasional trail when possible and no hardcore wheeling. I'm into expedition type wheeling and mild wheeling so offroad capabilities are a plus and it needs to ride nice too.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated folks.

So we have one of the shocks assembled and put the retainer clip set on the middle notch. While releasing the tension on the spring compressor we started to notice that the retainer isn't flush in the notch but it's bending outward some which makes me think it could pop loose or come out releasing a lot of energy in that spring and causing some vehicle/bone damage.

I don't have a pic right not but will get one for a reference.

Has anybody else experience this on their 5100's?

the top of the perch should be level with the next upper ring clip slot. if not, then the perch is not properly seated on the ring clip which can overload the ring and could cause sudden release of the clip. you need to partially release the compressor so you can adjust the position of the perch and spring. there should be at least 2 compressors per strut assembly.

Our shop has a free standing spring compressor which I've never used before. One of the techs had much better luck than I did but we did find the ring clip not seated once we started releasing the spring tension.

We'll compress the spring again and try to get it seated properly today.

you have the perch upside down. the perch should enclose the clip to prevent it from opening. so after installing the perch, you should not be able to see the clip but you can check if the perch is level because the top of the perch is very close to the next upper slot

So it went together MUCH EASIER when we flipped the cup over. Thanks everybody, it made a huge difference!

I started with the circlip on the middle notch first, when finished it looked very good and had a slight rake. Overnight though the rake was significant so I raised it to one notch over the middle. It's a tad stiffer up front but the majority of the rake is gone and I couldn't be happier. My tires look small now so time to save for some KM II's. I forgot to measure prior to the install, sorry!

from hub center to the bottom of the fender flare, how many inches? The stock dimension is 20" at the front and 20.5" at the back for a 1996 MY 4Runner 4WD. 23.5" - 24" up front which is not good for the the CVs.

Are you planning on getting 35" tires? with 33" (LT285/75R16) you won't be needing the 2" body lift and I would remove that if it were me. Just my .02

24.25" up front, have a diff drop kit installed though.
