truck gas/power steering shutoff + CEL

gas/power steering stopped working + CEL
1998 4Runner 3.4L 2wd SR5 auto
Today I was driving and suddenly I lost almost all power.
-Would not accelerate and gas pedal was hard to depress
-power steering seemed to stop working also
-brake still worked as i was able to pull over to the side of the road (thank god I was pretty much at a crawl already)
-Check engine light came on.
-electronics and what not still worked
So I shut it down and popped the hood. No steam or smoke anywhere, no leaks under the truck, checked dipstick - all good, temps seemed all good.
I started her up again and the CEL was gone...everything back to normal.
One thing I should mention is that I just had my ac evaporator replaced yesterday because of a leak, but not sure if that is related.
Any ideas of what it could be? vacuum related? gonna take it in to the shop on monday to get it checked out.

I had a similar issue.. years ago on my 92.. the dealer had done the head gasket and messed up the fog lights so they grounded out and took out the main fuse.
What did it turn out to be for you?

After searching for related problems on here, I decided to hold off on taking her to the shop. I believe my problem is the fuel filter. Bought the truck a couple months ago and I don't think the fuel filter has been changed in a LONG time. Ever since I had the truck my RPM's drop enough at idle to make it seem like it might stall (which is pretty much when my truck stalled out, at a stop), so that could be due to clogged fuel filter? Gonna try change that sometime next week and also clean the IAC valve.
