TRD tundra springs?

I wonder if the Bilstein shocks from a new TRD Tundra will fit the 3rd Gen 4Runner. I have all the stock suspension from my Tundra and I want to see if any of it will work on the 4Runner..... I guess the only way to know for sure is to try it....

I don't know. I just called Strap22 at TRD Parts 4 U.com. I told him what year/type vehicle I had and that I wanted TRD Tundra coils for it and he got me the right ones.

So it's a no on the springs but what about the shocks. I want just a little lift on my 4Runner to clear 265/70 17s which is about 31.57" OD...... I have brand new Bilsteins off the Tundra and I would like to put them to go use. I am still researching the topic but I am leaning toward some OME springs and shocks, but if I can use my Bilsteins I will just get the springs. I love this site, the more I search, the more great threads I find! Great group of people on here.

Tundra springs and shocks in a 4runner????
Hi guys, I'm thinking of doing something similar and wondered if the Tundra front springs and shocks would just bolt straight in to my '96 3rd gen 4runner and if so would it give the front end any lift or beef it up for a custom winch bumper I have planned?. I'm waiting for Tundra rotors/calipers/pads I ordered to come in from CA so I can do the full front brake system swap. I'll be the only guy in Ireland with this done to my truck, woohoo!!
I really want to lift her but I'm on a very very tight budget and came across a pair of Tundra front shocks/springs on Fleabay. The auction finishes tomorrow so please jump in with as much advice as you can give.

Specs: Tundra TRD Coils. Left, 48131-AF100 (Yellow/Yellow). Right, 48131-AF090 (Blue/Yellow)
The TRD coils fit:
4wd, access cab, w/off road pkg. 2000 - 2002
2wd Access cab 2003 - 2004
4wd Access cab Left 2003 - 2004
I have heard that the Tundra shocks will be too stiff since the Tundra is heavier and the shocks are valved for the added weight.
Go with the coils but not the shocks.

I have the '96 4 runner with the 4 cylinder 3.0 turbo diesel engine and have no idea what weight comparison there is between this and a Tundra. I'm watching a pair of standard 2004-2006 Tundra front struts with coils on Fleabay for $40.00 and don't know whether to bother with them. Will standard Tundra coils give me any front end lift and if "yes" approximately how much? If I do install them can anyone tell me what rear coils to use to match any front end lift? I'm trying for a 2.0" lift overall and also want to strengthen the back end to accept a hitch carrier loaded with a Honda NX 650 that weighs 390lbs and will be hanging behind the rear mounted spare wheel carrier.
I'd like to be able to drive it without looking straight up at the sky!

I just completed a Tundra TRD coilover swap on my Runner. The coils came from a 2005 TRD 4wd double cab. Codes are yellow/yellow, yellow/blue. There is tons of on the forums about this lift if you search.
Yes, the Tundra shocks ride fantastic!

O.K. I just measured my heights on all four wheel arches and I have 33 and 3/4" at the front and 35 and 3/4" at the rear. From what I gather here on the forum, I'll get an extra 2" at the front if I swap out my 4 runner coils and replace them with standard 2004-2006 Tundra coils, yes?
This would level out my truck and strenghten the front end to take the added weight of a winch and winch bumper, so far so good.
Apart from leveling it I'd like to get a further 2" all round so can you tell me what I should use on the front to get that extra height? Ball joint spacer? Daystar kit or similar?
I've no idea what rear coils/spacers to use which would match an extra 2" at the front.
I'd also like to strengthen the back end so that it'll support the weight of my motorcycle being carried on a hitch mounted carrier and would take the extra weight without pointing the nose of the truck at the sky and that would keep the truck level when I'm not carrying the bike.
The bike weighs 370lbs and will be hanging pretty far back behind the spare wheel.
C'mon guys, there has to be some genius out there who can tell me exactly what parts I should get.
Pheeeewwww!

C'mon fella! You gotta put your time in researching the forums!! I spent hours reading this stuff before I installed my lift. Just giving you a hard time
Here is the genius you ask of
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/n...4runner-41848/
I used the Old man Emu 906 coils in the rear with a 5/8" Revtek spacer up front (part no. TOE-2) and gained a perfect 2.5" on all corners. The TRD coils alone will give you just under 2". Also, the old thread says not to use the Bilstein TRD yellow/blue but it's not true. They ride great on my truck... only slightly stiffer than stock. You could also opt for the Old Man Emu 890 in the rear for closer to 3" lift and added towing strength. PHHEEEEWWW!!
Now go lift that truck!!!

My question is, what's the advantage/disadvantage of using TRD Tundra coils as oppose to OME coils? Cheaper and the fact that they are designed for Toyota? Also, are you only able to get almost 2" of lift from going the tundra route?
Thanks for replies in advance.

That is correct. Just shy of 2" direct drop in. If you add a 1/2" top out spacer you're good to go. Also if you could find a set of the Bilstein 5100 for a Tundra you can adjust any amount of lift you want in 20mm increments I believe, up to 3".
The Tundra TRD springs are the only progressive rate coil available for the front end I believe. On my truck they still ride like a Toyota front end(very supple). The OME stuff was made for some other Toyota SUV over in Australia and not specific to a 4runner. The OME springs have a tendancey of being stiff when not loaded down. My rear OME (906)springs are deffinitely stiffer than stock ride but not necessarily a bad thing for towing. Also I never ride in the back seat

Right on thanks for the information. I admit I asked that question before researching more all last night.
After reading up I'm going to go with the Tundra coils with OME ns shocks and the 891 rears with OME shocks. I like the idea of the Toyota coil feel like it should be and the less chance of destroying cv's more often.
Gotta love these forums.
