I like many, look toward a brighter, better future where I have an ARB air locker (maybe even two). However that future comes with a nice price tag...so... I've found what looks to be a pretty righteous deal on TRD's limited slip differential (I understand its actually an eaton?). So, any thoughts? Has/Is any body running one?

I don't have one but it is certainly better than an open diff, especially for street driving. If you go offroad a lot (or plan to), just save your money and get a locker. If not, a LSD would be nice.

I believe that for most people a LSD is good enough. It's also nice to stop a wheel from spinning when the road is wet. If it would have fit in my 4runner, I would've gone with the LSD.

If you're planning on doing alot of off-road climbing and such, save up for the locker. LSD is made more for traction on-road...the locker will give you much better performance off-road.

I agree- the LSD is great on-road (got one in my T100), not that great off-road. Save for the ARB for offroad, or at least a Lock-right if you can put up with the ratcheting (I didn't want to, so I saved for the ARB).

IMHO I dont like LSD at all cept for maybe in a vehicle your trying to make drivable and fast onroad....offroad its not powerful enough for hills (good in mud though!!)...and if you dont have 4x4 driving in the snow with an LSD requires some skill....LSD will cause serious side stepping (as will a locker) in snow while an open diff keep one wheel planted so the rear end doesnt come around......I'd save your money for the ARB or another brand selectable locker....

Sheesh, for that cheap I oughta get it to have while I save for the locker....
I know installing a locker is quite an operation, but seems like swapping out the LSD for the open diff wouldn't be too bad. Course I don't like what I'm hearing about winter handling (it is my daily driver, as well as my expedition dream truck rolled into one)

I put TRD lsd's in both ends of my 85 4Runner. It was an absolute mountain goat offroad! You do have to learn to drive it though - a bit of left foot on the brake and they hook up perfectly. BTW- I would never put one in the front again - scary on icy and snowy roads.

BUT, they wear out quickly. Before they had 40k on them the rear didn't do much anymore. So when I went looking for something to put in the 90, budget not allowing for air lockers, I went with the Trutrac. Smooth and quiet, does its job offroad, and by all accounts lasts pretty much forever, and the price is good.

Where were you looking of getting one from? I want a LSD or something that is cheap because I am tired of only spinning one wheel.

A risky move, but if you have the money you can do what I did:

I bought a donor rig with an e-locker, swapped out the diffs, and turned around and sold it for $300 more than I bought it for.

The only drawback is the wrench time and the lag time between the purchase and the sale. But if you can swing it, and you choose a rig carefully, it turns out being a win-win proposition.

Risky, but it works.

Do a search on ebay motors (soon), there's 0ne going for pretty cheap, I won't be bidding on it, so one less guy in competition. It ends soon. when I looked last night, no bids.

What price did you find on the TRD unit? Last time I checked it was over 700.00. FYI.. I am using the Detroit Truetrac LSD on my 1998 4Runner. I can look up the part number if you wish... I believe the cost was under 300.00 and it rocks
