I have almost bought a new 4Runner in New Jersey. Does anyone have a suggestion as to an inexpensive way to get it to Ohio? I would really appreciate all help that you could offer. Thanks in advance.

I almost bought a car from virginia and the best way I figured was renting a car one way which was going to be $139. taking a buddy with and sharing the driving we could have done it in less than 24 hours with a total cost of 300 or less....assuming decent gasmilage. but a fun road trip!!

I bought a Honda in St. Louis. She drove the Runner and I drove the Honda back to Colorado. We drove 1862 miles in less than 56 hours. It would have been less, but we slept in on Sunday morning and hit a nasty thunder storm on the Kansas/Colorado border.
If you don't have anyone that will go with you, the Greyhound idea is good. That's what I would have done.

are you guys buying new or used vehicles in other cities? if used it's understandable, but if it's new...why would it be better to buy from a different city than a local dealer...?

Not only are some dealers selling them for far less than others, but in some areas navigation is not available.

One question to think about.

Does your home state require an inspection of an out of state vehicle before you register it? Ct does. If you go to pick this car up, how are you going to drive home an unregistered vehicle. I don't know if this will be an issue for you, but it may be wise to look into it. You don't want to have a problem after you committ to making the purchase.

I would have never thought Jersey would sell them for less, Im guessing your not buying it from Northern Jersey

2000 seems like a fare price considering I don't have a 9-5 but run a business and could write my expenses off, plus cost of food and time and airfare back and gas

I driven several cars across the US, kinda a thing I do on the side, they where all 50k+ cars so they paid real well

you coudl probably have it transported for around 500 maybe more depending on the transport company. GIve a few a call they will give you qoutes right over they phone. But i would take the bus and drive it back, I would want to see it in person before it was taken from the dealer.

Ive driven to ohio myself I live in brooklyn, ny can get to the far reaching of jersey in less then 2 hours south. THe ride isnt bad take about 7-8 hours to get to the end of penn, then I dont know how far you are from there.

about a 10 hour 1000 mile drive, so if you dove it you would need about 100-200 dollars worth of gas considering what the price is

I have been listening to all of you plus a few that have emailed me direct. After difficult deliberations I have decided to find a way up there and drive it back. After waiting so long for exactly the vehicle I want, it would be hard for me not to fully check it out before signing the papers. Thanks for all of your help.

How did you locate a dealer in Jersey, how come you can't find a dealer within 100 miles of you that has a lower price.

Good to hear from you again. The only reason was the nav. It would take months to get one here and it had to be black. Rather than waiting, I went looking. The way that I found it was to have a wonderful member offer to do a computer search for me. I then called the dealers that had one shown. From there it was just a matter of negotiation.

I will be asking this on a new thread but does anyone know anything about the trailer wiring harness on the new 4Runner? Specifically, I want to know what is involved with installing a brake controller. Being that the connector is already 7 pin round, does that mean that the controller wires are already under the dash someplace? If not, how easy is it to get to them?

I would agree that saving money is in your best interests.....

However I bought a vehicle off ebay in december. I had the vehicle shipped from atlanta GA to Waynesboro, VA for 350 dollars.

My uncle just bought a custom bronco out of texas and had it shipped up for $700. It just so happened that it came on an enclosed carrier. (Dallas - Waynesboro, VA)

I weighed in the options of flying to atlanta and driving back. Then you look at the wear and tear on the vehicle plus the opportunity for someone to wreck into you and ruin your new toy. Plus cops speed zones, no to mention the time required.

My 4runner arrived on a three car carrier being pulled by a 1 ton dodge. No problems... The dude picked it up that morning and had it to me by 11pm. My uncles bronco came on a freightliner.


GIVE them a call they can give you a quote. They have an excellent inspection form and both times I have delt with them they have been very thorough. It took a week from sale to delivery on both.

I bought my runner on a friday and it could have been delievered the following tuesday but the dealer was a slacker. My uncles truck took slightly longer to dispatch because of ICE in dallas.

Just looked at mine. Controller wires are under the dash and it comes with a harness to connect from the controller to the brakes.

Haven't tried it, but it looks simple to do (famous last words).
