transmission slip

my tranny has been occasionally slipping when starting from a stopin my 96 SR5 4WD. i dont think its the fluid becuase it was just changed. i was wondering if it could be something electrical such as an ignition coil (my moms car had the same slipping problem and they said it was the ignition coil) i dont see how that makes any sense, ignitions coil and tranny. i didnt know if anyone else has had this problem on a 3rd gen?

if your truck is an automatic and had a lot of miles on it and then recently had a fluid exchange done and is now acting up, i would suspect bad tranny and about ready for replacement

I've read similar opinions as this in the past and I'm hesitant on how factual they really are. I have a '99 with almost 100k on it and I'm fairly certain that the prior owner did not do a tranny flush (auto tranny). I was hesitant on having one done but my mechanic said it can only help. He dropped the pan and the fluid was black. He cleaned the pan, emptied all the black fluid and replaced with long-life fluid.

I know there is still some old tranny fluid in the torque converter but it's minimal compared to the pan. I just picked up the truck last night and shifts are smoother than ever. The truck feels like it has more power. Long story short, ask your mechanic but it helped me.

Was it changed, or did you have it flushed - there's a big difference. Try a power flush, should be about $70.

Do you have any major power mods on the truck, like a supercharger or turbo? At 116k you should "expect" some slipping but the torque converter will mask most of it unless you're supercharged.

And no, it's not the ignition coil. Feel free to change all three of them if you'd like though.

no its not supercharged or have a turbo. i will try a flush, but if that doesnt work will some of that anit-slip tranny fluid work or is that stuff not good to use on yota trannys?

I've used it, and it's helped, but the effects are short-lived. It'll eventually start slipping again.

If the flush doesn't help, then you're probably looking at a rebuild. But, at 116k without power mods, then that's kinda' early.

Are you the original owner? If not, then someone may have abused the rig before you (e.g., wheel torques) or doing regular towing of a boat/camper through mountains. None-the-less, a good amount of life is missing from your tranny.

Your trans has a couple of solenoids in it that are probably done in. At least one of them anyways. Try pulling a code.
