Transmission rebuild price check
Transmission went after 175k, shop wants $2k for a rebuild on my 98 SR5 4Runner with labor to take it off and stick it back on etc. Do you think thats a reasonable price?
What should a rebuild for that price entail parts wise?
Should I consider another option?
I like the thing and want to keep it but want to make damn sure I am heading down the right path here!

Rebuilt my manual tranny for under 300 and if yours is a manual you could do too. Just need access to a press and a few other misc tools. If its an auto I could see it costing that much for it all.

Thats about on par. If I were in your shoes I would much rather they rebuild your trans even if it cost more. Usually they will send yours as a core back to the main rebuild place and use one they already have. I much prefer a rebuild on my own.
If you dont mind driving a bit and if your truck can handle it, I highly suggest driving down to northern NJ and going to level 10 peformance. They are the single best trans place I know of, multiple people here have used them and they rebuilt a manual trans in my 84 vette that they needed to make parts for very reasonably and its great now.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Its an auto, and I think I will have them rebuild it and hopefully not have to do a core exchange.
This sucks, I need to have my VR4 transmission rebuilt also soon and thats at minimum 1500 if I take it off myself and ship it out
Transmission impossible indeed!
