Transmission - Hesitation from Stop

Transmission - Hesitation from Stop
178k miles; head gasket machined - resealed in April; now after driving high speeds (65-70) for 20-30 mins after coming to a stop, when I hit the gas, engine revs only. I have to put it into neutral then back to drive to get the car in gear. Only happens after stops.
Thoughts? I'd love to get to 200K miles before I get a new 4Runner or FJ but concerned that my transmission might not make it.

So am I!
It does sound like it is slipping, i assume that it is an auto? If so 178k is a lot of miles and it would not be surprising if it was having problems. but i would try changing the fuild and making sure it is topped off first.
Someone else might have more ideas.

I don't no if you want to try it or not, but I had the same problem with mine in a 95 runner. I was told by my shop to try the LUCAS trans slip stuff. To my suprise, it worked and that was 2 years ago and still going strong. I did add a little to it since then, but it does the job.

I have had good luck with Seafoam or similar additives.
At the age of the transmission, "gunk" builds up inside and can interfere with parts moving critical to shifting and building pressure. A good additive can dissolve the gunk and restore performance. Make certain that you are checking the fluid level hot, level and engine running in park. Just one quart low can cause hesitations. Give that additive about 100 miles to do its job.
The upshift cable, attached to the throttle plate, needs to be free. I have seen them rust internally and freeze up. However, this is likely not your problem.
NOW, GO GET THAT ADDITIVE AND PROPERLY CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL.
A little overfill is much better than a little underfill should the additive push the level up a little.
What cha got to loose at this point?

That was your first mistake by taking it in to jiffy lube to do a transmisson service...who knows what they put in your tranny. I would drain and fill the pan with about 4 qrts then take her for a spin to get the fluid nice and warm or hot then top off as necessary. Ill bet they over serviced the tranny and thats not a good thing. I hate taking my veichals to any type of oil change places other than the dealer becasue half the time they dont know what their doing.

Went with LUCAS. Seems to be running smoothly but my weekly driving doesn't include highways - which is the only place I've seen the problem.
Going camping this weekend, so I'll report back after testing her out.
Thanks again.

LUCAS didn't cut it. Ran great all the way to camping and while there. Acted up again on the drive back. Again, only after driving 65-70 mph for 40 mins and coming to a complete stop - hit the gas, engine only revs. Shift to L and to D and runs fine.
PepsiBlue, any results from the ect computer test?

First thing you should do....drop your tranny pan and see if the filter is clogged....mine was and caused the same problems...replace it, don't try to clean
