Transfer case issue

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone can help me out. I have a 1998 4Runner limited with the v6. My issue is last night driving home from work my transfer case went into neutral and now it will not engage back into 4 high. When I put the truck into nuetral to shift back into 4high it will either grind or it will go in. But when it does slip back in as soon as I put it in drive or reverse the transfer pops back into nuetral. I had to get towed home and still can't figure out how to fix it. Thank you all for the help in advance. I'll try to post a video of what happens as it may be easier to understand what I mean

This will take some troubleshooting of the actuator and TC. This should help (from the '98 FSM):

did you drive in 4wd high on pavement? I believe the 1998 limited didn't have the center diff yet so you aren't supposed to use 4wd hi or lo on hard surfaces.

to be honest i dont recall i posted this for my brother who owns the truck. He doesnt recall if the transfer case was in nuetral while the tranny is in drive. if thats the case, when the transfer case is in nuetral, the vechile doesnt move when its put into gear. im not sure if this is a tranny issue or a TC. To sum of this mess, when the transfer case is in nuetral and we put the tranny into drive it doesnt move and when its in park it rolls.
