tranny tranmission question
I have a 99 prerunner v6 with an automatic tranny. When i come to a complete stop there is a jolt from the tranmission. It doesn't happen everytime, and is not too severe but is noticeable. It feels like it is not disengaging properly. It also has the same problem when starting from a stop. It seems to pop into 1st gear. All other gear shift very smoothly, it just seems to have a problem shifting in and out of 1st. Any ideas on what might casue this? Thanks for the help

Can't help with the cause but my 2001 4runner, auto tranny does the same thing when stopping. I first thought it might be some play in the driveshaft or rear end but when I checked them everything is tight.

did you check the trans fluid? if u r low, the pump in the trans sometimes will become dry and when it finally catches up to your rpm, and gets some fluid to shift, its like doing a neutral drop at 2500rpm. if your fluid is ok, it may be your torque converter.

thanks for the replies. The a/t fluid looks good, I think that I need to lube the driveshaft. It does not seem to be axle wrap as it happens both when accelerating and when stopping. Looks like a lot of people have this drive train "knock".
