Toyota Transmision

I NEED SOME HELP, I CURENTLY HAVE THE STOCK 4-SPEED TRANS IN MY 80 PICKUP AND WAS WONDERING IF I COULD PUT A TOYOTA AUTOMATIC IN IT INSTEAD OF THE 4-SPEED. I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE TOYOTA AUTOMATIC SO I DONT KNOW HOW STONG THEY ARE. WHAT DO YALL THINK?

4x4 or 2wd? 2wds were available with an auto since the late 70s, and there's other vehicles you can get one out of(late 70s-early 80s celica or corona). i think they were all mechanically controlled, but not sure if they had any other linkage besides the shifter(like a kickdown on the carb etc).

there aren't any autos that will work on your truck if its 4wd, since the first automatics came out for them in 1985 and were all computer controlled by the ECU. your truck doesn't have one, and it probably wouldn't be worth swapping one in, as the auto is generally regarded as inferior to the later 5 speeds.
