Toyota Shackels

Anyone ever had any experiences with lift shackels on the front of a first gen. 4runner. Good or Bad I had someone tell me they are not safe. This is not my DD but I do still drive it on the road, sometimes with my kids. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't say they are unsafe. There's a TON of info here http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Shackles.shtml

If you are looking to get some extra lift on the front of your 4Runner though, not sure if I'd go this route with stock springs. Chances are your stock springs are getting worn out and this sure ain't gonna help them out. Are you looking to get your stock ride height back or are you looking to fit bigger tires or what?

extended shackles can alter the caster and cause a bit of "death wobble" if it gets too thrown out of whack. however they're far from dangerous.

Caster angle changes can always be corrected with caster shims: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Shims.shtml

I've run extended shackles on the front of my '85 for about 7 years now. No real issues if you handle the install properly (correct the caster angle, make sure the bushings are in good shape, brace the shackles if 2" or more longer than stock, etc.).
