Toyota distributor Cap or one from Napa???

I was quoted $52 for a distributor cap from Toyota while I was quoted $14 for a cap from Napa. Is there any difference in quality and performance? Is there really a need to spend the extra bucks for the Toyota Cap???

thanks

Did you say 52 dollars for a Dist. cap??? I paid half that for both a rotor AND a dist. cap...weird.

If it was me, I'd make sure that wasn't the gold plated, BLING BLING Dist. cap!

I like the NAPA ones that have the brass contacts (compared to the usual aluminum ones) Some of NAPA foriegn parts are imported (duh) so check inside to see if it is brass.

I don't know about the 2.7L but when they designed the 3.4L they got rid of the distributor. I would expect the same out of the newer 4 cylinder but you never know.

As for a distributor cap, that seems pretty steep.

I bought a distributor cap for my 2.7 Tacoma from Autozone for $15. It was made in Japan and looked identical to the OEM part. Quit possibly made by the same machine that the OEM part was made on. You should be fine with the NAPA part.

thats what I thought, that price seemed insane. I will definately be going with a parts store brand.

As I am on my third distributor cap in less than a year, I'll say go with a toyota cap. But look around for a better price.

I agree w/ shopping around. Online Toy dealer prices are normally cheaper than my local dealer, even w/ shipping.

A cap is basically a cap other than the contacts. The Echlin/Dana caps from Napa have the brass contacts which is want you want. There cheaper lines have the aluminum ones.

The early 2.7L's still used a cap and rotor. I think the next model year got the distributorless ignition.

If it's an old truck, the NAPA part might be ok.

If it's fairly new, I'd stick with the dealer part, but shop around.

Generally speaking, I've had bad luck with non-dealer parts on asian vehicles.
