Towing with a V6?

Towing with a V6?
Im looking at a 99 runner with a V6, I need to be able to tow my 08' Grizzly 450. Has anybody towed this kind of weight (600 lbs) and if so, how does the V6 handle it? I looked for the question before I posted but couldnt find any on towing. If there is already a thread please direct me. Also, if there are any upgrades that anybody knows about to help tow my Grizzly that would also be appreciated.

i towed about a 500lbs trailer buy its self with about o 200 worth of stuff in it it was noticeable back there it has the power to tow it but my brakes where a little sketchy

i see people towing trailers with 4-wheelers and dirtbikes, pop-up campers, trailers with steel on it all the time. and they seem to do better than me with stock gears and 35's. lol

It should pull it with no problems at all. I'm guessing ~1000 lbs with the trailer? You will notice it back there, but the V6 will pull it without much sweat. Just turn off the O/D and ECT on.
If you were going to tow on a consistent basis, I'd go for a transmission cooler.

I've regularly towed a trailer filled with rock and debris, easily a ton of weight, without issue. I do have an aftermarket tranny cooler, but that's cheap insurance anyway.

You shouldn't have any problems, I tow a load like that occasionally with mine. I have also towed a Nissan Sentra with it. While the car did jerk it a round a bit, it was nothing major. The load you are looking at towing should be not problem unless you are towing in the mountains fully loaded at high altitude...then you would notice some power issues...it would do it, but not like my Sequoia.

I tow a small areodinamic camper that weighs about 1700#. It tows great but the Colorado mountains do slow be down. Some of that is the altitude. I have towed it back east and it towed all day long at 70-80 mph. I also have a 17' ATV trailer that I have towed with a Polaris Ranger 6x6 and assorted equipment for a total of about 3000#. It pulled great but because of the added wind resistance and strong head winds I would slow me down to 55 mph. The same winds slowed a Ford F550 pulling a trailer to 55 also.
My personal opinion is that an ATV and trailer, about 1000# max, will tow great. You will feel and it may slow you down a little on big mountain passes but not bad.

I had a bout a 600# with my jetski and trailer along with 7-800lbs in the back. it didnt like going up tioga pass but other then that it did great up to 70mph, i wasnt in any hurry so i didnt go much faster then that. you will be fine.

I've towed 2 Jetski's with my 3.0. Total weight of those had to be AT LEAST 1500 pounds. 55 is the speed limit while towing, and it did that, but didn't seem to have a whole lot more to give, and hills were interesting....3rd gear mostly, sometimes 2nd.

You won't have any issues towing. I tow in the winter a 2 place snowmobile trailer with 2 snowmobiles up here in NH. Tows great. I usually cruise along at 75 80 no problem. I think the max tow capacity is 5000 pounds. With my trailer and sleds I am around 2500.
One thing that does suck is the gas millage drops for me when towing. I just upgraded to the tundra front brakes so I hope that will help in the stopping!!

not recommended, but my M/t supercharged 97 4runner pulled 10,000lbs (on my 6000 hitch 
) for a short while - 10,000 trailer fully loaded with dirt and a bobcat to boot. went smooth, but wouldn't recommend it at any speed over 40 miles or with an automatic

I have an old 1981 Triple E travel trailer that weights ~3000lbs. loaded up. Just got it this summer and pulled it for the first time going camping. It's about a ~3 hour trip one way.
It handles it fine at low speeds, but keeping up to speed on the highway (especially in the hills on in strong winds) is a bit sketchy. Braking can be fun as well.
600lbs. should be a breeze.
