I'm going to be towing a 6' X 12' enclosed trailer for a friend of mine. It's a Uhaul, double axle. Probably will weigh in at about 2,500 - 3,000 lbs when it's got all his junk in it. He doesn't have too much stuff. Still, it'll be plenty for the truck. My question is this, when you all tow do you leave hte OD on, or shut it off. It will stay off while driving through the mountains, but then I still have a couple of hrs worth of 70mph hwy driving on I-40. I know some tranny's can really take a beating if the OD is not shut off, how do our tranny's do? I'm just assuming I probably ought to leave the OD off the whole time, only downside is poor gas mileage and loud motor.

Leave it off unless you are on flat open roads...no stop and go. I believe it is in the manual but I can't rememeber.

The engine does not have to work as hard with the OD off because of the RPM range. I turn mine on while I am on the highway around 100-120 km/hr. There is not much strain at these speeds on flat ground as the RPMs are already up there.
