When I go off roading, I get muck filling the inside of the tow wiring plug. it has a spring loaded cover but still fills up with mud/dirt.
I was thinking of squirting a bunch of white grease in there but was afraid that would mess up the electrical when you plug the harness in there for towing...any suggestions?

If you're going to fill it with anything, use electrolytic grease only. Don't use regular grease!

I have the same problem Toy.

When I hook up my trailer lights, there is a bunch of sand and mud in there. I even thought about trying to relocate it, but haven't done anything with regards to that yet!

Open the tailgate and tuck the plug up inside, then shut the tail gate. That'll keep the plug high and dry. You should have enough length to do that.

The plug is mounted on a steel plate and you would need over 3 feet of extension to do that.
I figured squeezing some grease or something in the plug would be alot easier don't you?

You could always try the handyman's secret weapon - duct tape over the cover to keep it shut.

I like the duct tape, or one last idea. Do you have an old plug? Cut off the wires and plug it in. I wouln't use grease of any sort. You'd just get dirt in the grease and it'd be a hassle to get out. You'd have to remove the grease to use the plug again anyway.

I was thinking the same thing, get an old connector off of a trailer or something and then plug that in and you could use some duct tape, or even better, use electrical tape around the initial seam and then use duct tape as the enforcer.

And if you REALLY wanted to be cool, you could get some of that Camo Duct Tape they have at Lowe's...then you would really fit in here in Arkansas my friend!!!

How about a piece of relatively stiff foam or packing material.

Just use an exacto to cut out the fittings and plug it in there. You may have to trim so the lid closes completely.

Off to Home Depot!
