Im planning on cleaning my throttle body by taking it off the engine completely,I have a couple of Q's though.
What pipe do you take off to drain the coolent from the T/B ?
If you took off you T/B ,did you have to get a new gasget on there or did the old one come off cleanly?
Any other tips are welcome also.

I left mine on, opened the butterfly, sprayed it with carburator cleaner, and scrubbed it as far back as I could reach with a toothbrush. After I was finished, I removed the hose (approx. 1cm in diameter) that ran from the valvecover to the intake tube and sprayed the rest of the can in that hose as the engine was running while manipulating the throttle.

After I was finished, the engine was idling faster so I had to adjust the idle screw on top of the throttle body.

It's recomended to take the TPS off of the T-body before hosing it down with carb cleaner so the senors don't get f-ed up by the chemicals. However, I tried to adjust my TPS today and it was very confusing (still not sure if it's right). So I don't know if it is worth the risk or not.

When I clean my T-body, I take it all the way off and the gasket comes off cleanly and can be reused. I take 2 hoses off the bottom of the t-body and only a minimal amount of antifreeze comes out (as long as the engine is cool and there is no pressure built up in the lines).

I prefer to take it all the way off cause you can get it much cleaner that way and you can get a good look inside your plenum to decide whether or not to pull it and clean it and the intake manifold as well.

Thanks chicken thats very helpful.Yeah the TPS confuse's the hell out me as well.Ive been looking into that at the moment too.
Im glad to see the gasket came off ok ,cos i was hoing to not have to get a new one.

i just cleaned it with a rag using no chemicals, i def felt an improvement.

You should not use Carb cleaner. You are not cleaning a carb.

There is a stuff made specifically for this purpose. It is called air induciton system cleaner. It is kind of like carb cleaner but safe to use on throttle bodies and their plastic parts. Just look for it at the autoparts stores.

Thanks Gadget,but ive already got some Wynn's (the leading brand down here)
Throttle body cleaner.so i should be sweet,it certainly smells differant to CRC or WD-40.

no joke, in my toyota service manual (the real deal), it says to use carb cleaner. i didn't though and used 'throttle body cleaner', which is probably the same thing but branded differently
