threw a rod

New here and what a great forum! A wealth of information for sure.

I threw a rod in my 2003 V6 4x4 Tacoma. My block took a good lick and I feel it is beyond repair. I have a good engine out of a 96 4Runner. I want to replace all the gaskets and will pick the best heads, and manifolds to use out of the two engines. I think I will use my throttle body.

Question...why do the "complete engine overhaul gasket sets" have different part numbers? Do I need a 96 or an 03? More than likely I will only use the block from the 96 because my heads look great as well as all other components. I will have a machine shop check them and possibly resurface them for the new head gaskets it will get.

Again great forum here, Ive been reading for a long time and realize this is the place to ask.

Thanks

The long blocks are exactly the same. I would use the gasket set from the 2003, since you will be using your Intake. wiring, injectors, and exhaust from the '03.

Whatever you do, do NOT use the intake/wiring/exhaust/injectors from the 96. You will have nothing but problems.

sounds like a plan thank you for the response. Will the dealership gasket set supply a MLS head gasket?

Some pictures... I change my oil every 4 to 5k miles with Pennzoil 5w30 yellow bottle. Truck has 125k miles, I put the last 75k miles on it. Ran like top until the failure never a minutes problem.
My heads

My least favorite rod

Damn, that sucks man. I haven't seen carnage like that since we did the "cash for clunkers" blowups at the dealer...now THAT was fun!
