Temperature controlls

On my 1999 4Runner I have the normal circular and slide bar type temperature controlls. When looking at more 4Runners online, I noticed that some 99's, I think only limited's have digital controlls. Is it possible to do a swap from the manual to the digital controlls? What is involved in this? Thanks

I've seen some posts here about this issue, and supposedly due to the amount of wiring/sensors, etc., it's not feasible. However, do a search and see what comes up. It might be do-able and worth it to you.

I'm sure it's possible(anything is with $$$$) I've wondered about same thing, I hope there's a plug and it is a direct replacement....also I'd think temp. sensor is required because of the automatic climate control feature....

You will pretty much need to pull out the entire dash and swap it to do this.
It is a serious undertaking and not at all for the faint of heart.
Like the man said, all it takes is $$$$$.

This is gonna be a complicated mod. I am trying to do the same thing on my 96 SR5 too. It involves 3 sensor if I remmeber right, one outside temp sensor, one ambient sensor and one solar sensor that goes on the left front dash. You need the control module and all the wire harness that go to the sensors and 3 other servo that goes around the heater core. I would say the best way to do it is that you are able to find a 99 limited in the salvage yard and hopefully they do not charge you too much for those wiring , servo and sensors, in my case they basically do not care too much about those wiring harness. Good luck hope this help.

It would be very helpful if you have the toyota factory service manual for the wiring diagram.

It can certainly be done but it is a HELL of alot of work!
Best way i think is just to pull the entire dash and ductwork from a 99+ Limited (only LTDs have dig controls)
The other trouble will be that the wiring harnesses may be very different so no plug and play.
I would bet a 99+ will have a MUCH easier time doing this mod than a 96-98 will.
