T.P. your own Toyota?

Filtration via a replaceable toilet paper element...

http://www.wefilterit.com/

The concept has been around since at least the 50's, but I hadn't seen it surface for a couple of decades...

I remember this from a long time ago as well. I'd completely forgotten about it. What do you think, Rob? Seem like a valid filter to you? Looks like it's for real to me. Even if it is unconventional...

From the information I can gather, people seem to be very pleased by the system, once they get by the idea of using a roll of T.P. as their oil filter. The concept seems to be sound, with the oil going through multiple layers of medium and I like the fact that the element is cheap and readily available, so you can replace it frequently.

I can't attest to their numbers, I suspect that would vary based upon the quality of the T.P. you buy and I am having a hard time getting around the idea of shoving a roll of Charmin in there and having it protect my engine. But, other than my mental block of thinking of it as T.P., the principle seems sound enough.

Forcing the fluid through the layers of a paper element to clean it is basically all that a standard filter system does, so I can't find fault on that level, but I have a hard time picturing myself grabbing a roll and going out to change my oil.

The real question here is: Charmin or Cottonel?

Wouldn't the softer rolls be worse?
Seems to me that the extra "cushy" linty part would be carried away by the oil.

When the Frantz Oil Cleaner/Filter was first invented, the variety of Toilet Paper choices was slim! It is true, that you used to be able to go into any grocery store and buy the brand on the shelf. Unfortunately, this has changed in the last 20 years. The choices of Toilet Paper available today can confuse the average person! For optimal performance of the Frantz Oil Cleaner/Filter, it has always been recomended to use a 2 ply 500 sheet per roll, facial quality Toilet Paper. The purpose for these specifications is so that you will obtain the most densely packed roll of TP available. If you cannot find a 2 ply 500 sheets per roll in your favorite grocery store, we suggest that you try the comercial or janitorial supply companies to find some. If you still cannot find or buy any, we do have it for sale either in four packs or by the case!
We have also heard that a 1 ply 1000 sheet TP has also worked(Scott 1000).

My guess is that using scented would be a bad thing... Adding the chemicals to your crankcase would be .. ummm... "schweet".

May not be the same brand, but we used a TP oil filter on the family 1962 Ford Fairlane 500...the 260 V8 ran great until it had about 160K miles on it.
