Hi.. all..
First off I would like to say .. Nice forum.. This place is great!!

Now on to my problem. OK. I did do a search for my problem but didn't find anything. I recently got a 00' 4Runner. I love it and its been great.(although I only had it for a week now ) But I was driving on the highway and saw that the steering wheel was shaking quite a lot. This seem to happen only on highway driveing and on speeds between 60 and 70 mph. Im thinking its the suspension, but Im not sure.. THis an't my area of expertece. Also that when going over bumps its pritty shaky.. and that I can also feel all the bumps ... even little ones. Maybe shocks? if any more info is needed I would be glad to give it. But I love my 4runner and want to find out what is wrong... or if this is normal.

P.S. I bought this 4Runner from A local dealer and it was in the used car lot. But it is toyota certified. So.. maybe take it back and say fix it?

That "Toyota Certified" carries a price tag I found out, so make them fix it. Sounds like wheel balance (or lack there of)

I don't know if the factory shocks are stiff or not, but feed back from the road is a good thing IMHO. Someone with a 2K can probably help on that.

Well.. I went to a local shop here that dose nothing but Toyota work. I talked to the owner and he said that the tires were outa balance. So I went over to JustTires and had a tire balance and alinement done. Turns out that the alinement was fine and that the weels needed balanceing. So so far so good... More to come..

Tire size will make a difference to. Soon as I bought my Y2K, I replaced the tires with BFG AT 270/70R16, and had shimmy problems throughout owning them. I then went to 265/75R16 and problem solved. If you have stock rims the 265/75 is probably the biggest you can run w/o shimmy problems. I now have 16x8 with 285/75R16, no problems.
