Supercharging the '96 Taco...
What exactly is the deal with sc on '96 Tacos? Ive heard its something to do with the ECU, they were changed in 97 or something.
Has anyone done a 96 or earlier Taco or is it possible at all?

Yeah... like Jamie said, a LOT of folks have S/C'd that engine. Not a problem, but to do it right, there's more to it than bolting in the S/C.
Check the link that Jamie's posted. It's where 97.3% of us have started.

I looked at the link, didnt talk about the '96 Taco. If you look at the applications for the TRD SC's its always for 1997-up Tacos and 96 up 4Runners. Just wondering why '96 Tacos are excluded.

Drop a line to Gadget at URDUSA or through his private site above and ask.

Read the section about the earlier trucks and you will see what I mean.

On the earlier model ECUs like yours, 95-98 year models, the ECU continues to try and trim fuel even in boost. This is unacceptable because under boost conditions, the ECU is still trying to get the fuel mix to 14.7 AFR giving you very lean running conditions doing definite damage to your engine. The 99 and newer ECUs don't do this. However, you can still run a supercharger safely if you use URD's fuel kit that is designed for your year truck:

I think I will throw the question to Gadget or maybe he may chime in.
