Tensioner

If it is the 3.0L (00602-17620-332) we are running a special for $43.65 with shipping. If it is the 3.4L (00602-17620-090) then it would be $71.55 with shipping. Let me know if you want to order with me.

I went to the dealership with the infamous oil leak from the nose cone. I got the belt tensioner kit installed free (under warranty). Since the oil started leaking, the chattering sound from the s/c unit while at idle has gotten a little louder and I was only seeing 6 lbs of boost where previously, I was getting 7. They thought the belt was slipping, so they did the tensioner install.

I was still getting 6 lbs boost after the install, and the nose cone still appeared to be leaking.

I have since had the 'ping' pulley installed. The TRD guy called it by this name. Now, I only get 4 lbs of boost. Ouch! I didn't even get kissed!

If you think your belt is slipping, you should probably be able to get the install under warranty. According to TRD, the tensioner is now included in the new kits.

Good luck! Please tell TRD they stink, for me!

Are you unhappy with the TRD SC by any chance?

TRD

You should try being a distributor of theirs. That sucks on the SC, is yours the black or gray one? Let me know.

They should not ever be leaking according to Magnuson who repairs them. I have an older gray one and have drove it hard in the last 6 weeks that I have had and no leaking. They should not leak at all no matter what TRD says. They will just blow you off at the dealerships though. Don't blame the dealership on this one though, they get stonewalled by TRD. Let me know if you want Toni Tutogis at Magnuson # to ask him how much it would cost to repair it.

Thanks for the info. I reported the leaking to trd and South Bay Toyota (in Torrance,CA) before the 60K warranty was up on the s/c.

The dealer said that trd also told them that leaking was normal. I was told by trd that there are about 3.5 oz of oil in the nose. Well, judging by the amount of oil on the s/c and belt cover, the inside of the nose is probably pretty close to empty. If the s/c dies, I'll push for either a replacement under warranty, or a buy-back.

I take it that being a distributor of trd includes quite a bit of 'challenges', eh?

For me, it's to the point that I opt for no trd interaction if possible. Rather than go with the trd exhaust and brake pads, I bought directly from Borla and Performance Friction.

I emailed their trdhelp and received some pretty in-direct answers...

TRD

Yeah they don't really care about their customers or their distributors. I have never really seen this type of retail customer support or excuse me lack there of. That is why we try to buy in bulk and not even deal with them.
