Okay, I'm a champ at replacing all the fluids and basic maintance up-keep. BUT, I still need to go to the stealership for all joints and fittings to be lubed. I just do not know what (and where) needs to be re-lubed. :pat: And the type of grease to use. Is there a diagram anywhere that shows all the points to go at? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for not laughing too loud.

Is a Zerk a bolt that is to be removed so you can shoot some grease in there?

do not remove these, mostly because they are press fit into the ujoints. they have a detent ball in the tip that is like a check valve, it only lets grease get pumped in, not out. gotta get a grease gun and a flexible grease gun hose and 'snap' the tip onto the zerk's and then give it a couple maybe a few pumps. there's one for each ujoint on the drive shaft and one for the double carden. I believe there are 5 maybe total on the rear drive shaft and 2-3 on the front, I can't remember off hand becauese I usually just start at one end of each shaft and work toward the other end until all have been lubed so I don't count.:pat:

EDIT: I forgot to mention the zerks that lube the slip yokes too.

yes that bit me in the keester once as I was removing the driveshaft to replace an input shaft seal. I put a prybar in through one of the ujoints and began loosening the four companion flange bolts, and ~snap~! oh I thought to myself, but luckily it just pulled out and didn't snap off. I just wiped some gasket stuff on the surface and pressed it back in. I only did that because I plan on replacing all my ujoints sometime anyway and I figure that will get me by until I do.

Hey city kid, if you can buy Chevron Delo or any other type of EP grease. Ep=Extreme Pressure, or extreme duty grease. The consistency is greater, will provide better lube for a longer time and will reduce wear. It won't be as useless as say a cheap "red-tack" grease. Both at work (John Deere 450 and Case 921, Excavators and FE Loaders) and home I use EP. Cheap grease is thin and near useless, not totally but close. Others may argue, but just be sure to grease, regardless of the type.

I grease my vehicles at least once a month. I am in SW Fla and work in a fill pit, sand and rock.

anything besides the zerks on the driveshafts that need to be greased, I counted 6 is that right or did I miss some

I would grease about every 5 k or anttime I have encountered water deep enough to hit the driveshafts/steering components. My 71 Landcruiser has 13 grease fittings I can think off.

I use an exstreme pressure synthetic grease as it "clings" better to the parts I grease and doesn't wash off.
