I have a stud (lug nut stud) that needs to be replaced on the front L side. I am wondering how hard is this to change out and if there are any recomendations, tips or special tools I will need.

I am not new to turning wrenches, just toyotas

Any input on the procedure would be greatly appreciated.

That reminds me, I have a broken one on my front right hub! lol...

You'll need to remove the rotor and caliper to access the studs. Pound the old one out and press the new one in.Double check the spines on the studs. You can get them snug when you put your wheel back on. On the rear, just hit them out of the axle thru the back. Replacing is just putting them in from the back and snugging them with the wheel. This is how I done mine. You can also get a stack of washers and use the lug nut to snug the studs up.

Thanks for the tips, very helpful. I was just wondering, I went to get my tires balanced and the place overtorqued my stud and snapped it. I am still disputing it w/ them.

Thats pretty crappy that the shop didn't just replace it on the spot. Its not a big job and thats just ty service to even argue it with you.

For replacing them, I definitely recommend the stack of washers to pull the new one through. When you get the new stud, make damn sure the spline is the same, and the whole thing is the same for that matter. I went to Canadian Tires (several locations) a few times trying to get the right ones after they gave me the wrong ones, and they tried giving the wrong ones again and again. But then again, thats just Canadian Tire for ya.

Lemme guess...they used an impact to tighten the lugs?

They should replace that stud for you.

I usually use a 20 ton press to press mine out...makes it a helluva lot easier than beating on it!
