Stuck PCV Valve

Has anyone had trouble yanking out thier PCV valve?

Mine is stuck! I tried pliers and everything I can get it to budge. Any thoughts?

Maybe I should work out more.

Also how often should I replace my O2 sensors? I have 188,000 miles on em and no check engine lights, but my mileage is starting to decrease and it is not very responsive.

Is this when the engine is cold? Try letting the motor completly cool down so that the rubber/plastic shrinks.

I had the same exact problem last year!
In fact if you did a search you could probably find it. Let me guess... grommet is hard as a rock? I wouldn't be surprised if the grommet lip has already torn off.

I used a few sparing sprays of WD-40 with vice grips and it came out after a little bit of yanking.

I pulled my 3vze's valve cover, anchored the PCV in a vice, and went to town pulling on the valve cover and levering the PCV out....

Broke the grommet which was hard as concrete....then had to break up the ring of the grommet in the valve cover to get it out...

How much does a grommet cost and can I get it at Kragen/Napa/AutoZone

Also does a hard grommet effect idle or mileage?

Nope.

A hard grommet could leak oil however.

Should the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve become stuck open, usually the only symptom associated with it is excessive oil consumption.

*raises hand* (i'm in that boat)

Mine was stuck open till i beat the snot out of it....then I drilled the b!tch out, stuck it back in the valve cover with a new grommet. Next some rubber hose will be attached to it and to another PCV valve that WONT be under the intake plenum, then from it to the plenum. PCV mod rules!! LOL

mine was stuck to, not too bad though. The grommet was hard and brittle, and I could not get a grip on it to save my life; kept breaking apart. The grommet was $4 from Toyota.

Thanks for this info, it was very useful. Just spent 2.5 hrs getting my valve out. I've got a 93 pickup. Ended up cutting the top of the pcv gasket off. Then I used a vice grips to pull up on the pcv valve enough so that I could get a heavy duty wire cutter to get underneath the lip of the pcv valve. I put a block of wood under it and used it like a lever to pry the valve out. Be careful though, when the valve comes off, the gasket will split and you'll want to be careful that it doesn't fall in.

pcv grommet?

Yeah, what is the grommet? Is it the rubber ring that goes around the valve cover or the insert that sits in the valve cover that the pcv goes into? The rubber ring on mine is toast and I think I may have damaged the insert. It only stays in place if I pull up on the pcv. If I push down on it it kinda flops around. I hop I didn't break anything and have to get a new valve cover..
