Strange noise
I just had a bunch of work done on my 96 Tacoma, now have strange noise.
It is a '96 3.4L 4WD extended cab. When I am driving around sixty and go downhill, with a bit of gas, I am getting a strange vibration/noise. The closest thing I can think of that it sounds like is the exhaust brakes on trucks. It is not very loud though. Seems to be coming from beneath me or someplace in the front of the truck.
Recent work:
Tune up
Valve adjustment and new gaskets
New timing belt and all other belts
OME medium stiffness front springs and firm shocks
Alcan rear springs from Wheelers and OME shocks
Drop bracket for exhaust
Brake extension for rear breaks
Running 265/75R16 tires on Wheelers wheels (the 'B' style)
Any thoughts on what it might be? The sound showed up after the work was done this weekend. I just drove 600 miles away from home on a trip, and am a little concerned, especially since I am going to be heading out fishing...
Thanks for any help...

I was wondering about an exhaust leak.
Wouldn't that show up whenever I was on the accelerator though? Not just dudring a specific circumstance?
Thanks

Bruce yes that makes logical sense that it would be everytime while on the gas-but backpressure is not always logical in my experience.....
I'm just guessing- I have no empirical knowledge of these things....just throwing out a bone as someplace to begin the search....

because of all the suspension work I would be looking at the drive lines possible angle issues possible loose bolts possible mistimed driveshaft if they had to disconnect it

I had the same sort of thing happen after I did the SAS to my runner. I never did figure out, but after I did the 5 speed swap it completely stopped. SO my guess would be the tranny.

Thanks for all the replies.
I will have to look at the heat shield as well...
I am wondering if it might not be some kind of driveline vibration or something.
I found it happening most of the time on the freeway, in 5th, about 2200-2600 RPMs.
Most often showed up just after cresting a hill, and letting off the gas. It showed up at different times when I was on the gas or not though.
I have to take it in anyway, figured I'd have them look at drive lines etc and get everything lubed well down there.
