Stock rear electronic locker not locking

The original un-tampered-with rear diff locker on my 02 Tacoma for some reason doesn't want to lock. When off roading today I pressed the "RR diff lock" button while in 4wheel drive low and it started flashing like normal....and it flashed and flashed and flashed, indicating that it was still unlocked. I tried backing up and pulling forward numerous times but eventually I gave up. Has anyone have any idea what the problem could be.

thanks,

I've had similar problems in the past and cured it by puting some of that electrical connector greese in the wire connectors on the locker housing. Maybe yours needs the same.

you could try turning and driving in forward/reverse to try and get it to lock

I had the same problem. When I got around to crawling under the rear end and looking at the diff housing I realized the electrical connector had come undone. Plugged it back in and voila! It worked again.

Sometimes the actuator drive gear can become frozen. Take the actuator off, open it up (being very careful of the gasket), and spray some penetrating lube on the shaft on both sides of the housing.

Pop the E clip off the gear, put the shaft in a vise and try to twist it carefully. If there's some serious resistance, then you've found the problem. Continue turning the housing back and forth to allow the lube to penetrate thoroughly.

Grease the contact wheel/tracks and reassemble it. Look on TTORA for a detailed writeup with pics...

I did this in March. I could hear the motor turning the gear, but the locker wasn't engaging. After I did this, it worked like new.
