Step Bars on 02 4runner

Ive got an 02 sport edition and its got those step bars on the sides that came stock. Seems like every picture I see of this year with a lift has the step bars removed. I was wondering if there is a good reason for removing them or if it just looks better. Im getting a lift this week and am trying to decide wheather or not to take them off. I do use them when I put my kayak on the roof so if its just for looks Ill probably leave em on.

They get smashed on rocks very easily if you wheel. I'm not alone in thinking they look lame too.

That would really look awkward - 35s, 6" of lift and running boards. You should just get some rock sliders and place them out a little so she would be able to get her foot on the edge. Either that or just toss her up there haha.

you could go for those electric steps that go down when the door is opened and then fold back up when the door closes. I heard if you go through alot of water the mechanism can get fried. but just an idea

i hear ya. nice runner btw. i think i can take em off and not have too much of a problem w/o getting sliders but thats what i thought with my 94 p/u and have a beautiful huge dent right below my driver side door. maybe i could just get a little step stool so she can hop in. its a small lift ne way. maybe a taller girl friend would solve the problem

Mine does a nice jump maneuver to get in. Just keep in mind, fat chicks can't jump

lol! plus if their wearin a skirt that little girly jump can be pretty sexy... as long as they dont miss and fall in the dirt and then you gotta leave em in the mud and act like you dont know who they are.

oh c'mon now guys.. lets keep it family rated!

psssst, I like the skirt/mud idea

In all reality, ditch em if you don't need them and wheel some. They drag ass, and it only takes once before they're ripped off. I don't mind the look of them on, but I rather have sliders. Plus, I just sold my running boards... No turning back now haha
By the way, are we talking about a 4Runner or Taco? Cus where the heck you gettin a 6" lift from!? Unless you're doing susp. + bl

I was just kidding about the 6" lift. How much can you sell the running boards for, I didn't know anybody would want them.

Nobody has mentioned the possible rubbing issue, and they get your pants dirty when it rains...no, seriously...you step out and get that "mud line" on your calf every time!!!! Take em off (not your pants) and sell em on CL for some bucks before a rock does the job for you.

ohh, ok.. It got me wondering

anywho, I posted mine up on craigslist and some guy bought them for his wife's 02 limited. Sold them for like 70 bucks. Took 2 days after the post to sale. I wouldn't put them for sale on here or any other forum (maybe toyota-4runner.org) cus no one wants them. Most people took theirs off to begin with. Good luck

I took my running boards off because the stock look with them on reminds me of fat people. Something about the Eddie Bauer edition Explorers.............sorry to my fat friends here.

But I have kids and I'm not a giant (5'10" with shoes) and I will eventually raise it an inch or so. Sliders would be overkill for me so I bought these cheap tube steps on ebay. They don't exactly fit and after going over and over with the seller about it, I sent him my pictures and he gave me a full refund!!

Anyways, this is what it looks like, not yet installed: http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/d...roAnt/4Runner/

Dude i posted a thread on this also bc i currently have the OME lift and 33s and my gf and mom and sister can barely get in... they have to kinda like hop/jump to get in and i wanna go with a BL soon and so i figured my best solution is just to get sliders that are almost flat out to serve as a step up.

Get the Shrockworks sliders and put some grip tape on them and you'll be good to go!
