Hey my steering wheel is begining to shake a bit, and I was wondering what could be causing this. It's not the brakes. It just had a brake job. Some one told me maybe the throw out bearing? Could this be? Any thoughts? I'm going to be selling this soon, and I wanted this corrected before I put it in the paper.

If it shakes without having your foot on the brake then I would have the tires rebalanced....could be just one that is off. Bad front end alignment MAY show this as well but is unlikely (usually causes the car to pull left or right). Also check the trires for any irregularities like bubbles (place where the tire appears to bulge out). I would thinkk a balance will do the trick.

I agree with mtl, check the balancing of your tires. Because my mom's camry started doing that a lot, the steering wheel would shake like a mother! Check to see if you have all the weights on your wheels, and if you do, maybe find a place to get them balanced for free (ie discount tire) If that doesn't work, have the dealership check ur alignment. Those are the typical things I can think about.

When was the last time you had your tires rotated? When you take them in for the balance, tell them to CROSS-ROTATE the tires. That means when the take the front right tire off, instead of putting it on the right rear, they put it on the left rear, thereby reversing the rotation.

I had problems with my previous car and they blamed it on the wheels (very expensive aftermarkets) and on the tires (michelin energy mxv4's). I knew it was neither. After 3 trips to them in 2 days telling them that they didn't know what they were doing, I asked the tech how he was rotating my tires. I had asked for CROSS-ROTATION every time I borught it in, but he had never done it.

They checked the balance on the tires one more time, then cross rotated them as I requested. Problem solved and I didn't have to go back to the shop for almost 10,000 miles to get my next rotation. Needless to say, they listened to my request to cross-rotate that time.

It has to do with the way the tread wears and how it will cause vibration as it comes into contact with the road...

I'll rotate them this weekend then. It couldn't be this easy, could it? It does shake without pushing the brakes. I'll see if I'm missing any weights too.

I just checked my wheels in the for sale section, and it doesn't appear to be missing any weights. Oh well, we'll see this weekend.
