Steering Popping?

Ok, so I just got my front differential put into my 1989 V6 4x4 pickup, and the 4wd is working perfectly... except that I "pop" when I turn while going slow... its just a little popping sound and I dont know why its happening, so do you guys have any ideas?

Do you have the steering at full lock? If so it is your steering stops making the noise. Replace the plastic caps or grease the stubs

What sort of terrain are you testing the 4WD operation on? If on pavement or other high traction surface, you may simply be experiencing part time 4WD driveline binding. Generally not a good idea to use 4WD on pavement as the binding that occurs puts a lot of stress on things.

Otherwise, it may be a CV joint that is binding up and popping on you.

nah, i think he means it's coming from the diff. like when it's binding.
if he's at full lock and is turning/accelerating and/or hitting bumps at full lock, that's when the stops come into play.

edit:this was to matt/celica =)

What kind of diff did you put in? Some locking types make a popping sound as the locking parts slide past each other...

I actually have this same problem but it is not related to 4wd. Mine does it when I turn slightly or like when I turn to pull into my drive way. Its not the noise you hear from the steering stops. It literally sounds like popping. Stearing stops to me sound more like a squeaking. Anybody know what that might be?

I have the same issue but thought it was due to my shocks not being long enought for my coils and spacers. Just a thought but I haven't worried about it too much as I will probably be getting rid of the spacers soon. Hoping the sound will go away after that. BTW, my popping sound is not consistent and I can't tell you when it does happen as it seems to occur randomly.
