SS 1.2 or SS 7.2?

SS 1.2 or SS 7.2?
What is the difference in the 2 lift kits? One says you need new bumpers and other crap. One says stock is good. Theyre the same price too. I dont do that much hardcore offroading like some of you do. I just basically want a sweet looking lift kit that rides more like a truck than my 4Runner rides. I havent got stuck with my stock suspension yet either. So, that should tell you that I dont do that much bad stuff. I live in Florida so i dont deal with rocks and crap, just sugar sand and mud. Lots of mud. That deep, mucky, nasty suck you in mud.
Id like to run 33s with no body lift. will they work with the 7.2 or thr 1.2?

if you dont' carry bunch of crap when going out wheeling, take the 7.2 and 32" tires, you are good to go. you will need to do more work for the 33" tires, plus it sucks gas $$$. save some money to get the Tundra brake upgrade.
most popular 32" size is 265/75R16.

7.2 is good all around. The ride is pretty decent - better than a truck, so maybe you won't be happy!
For the 1.2 you'll have taller rear springs. It'll give you a jacked up look, which is why SS recommends having more weight, like with a rear bumper, to help keep it tame. I don't know if there are any safety issues with the taller rear springs if you don't have a lot of rear weight.
7.2 is a nice level lift. Good to go. I'm a satisfied customer.

well, i dont have much crap in mine. just a jack and some tools. i do want a level one though. i cant stand the rear being higher than the front. sitting a tad nose high is ok but not with the rear higher. i wont be using it for a dd too much longer either so gas isnt an issue. i want another truck fro a daily driver and my 4Runner is gonna be a toy for messing around with in the woods. its getting up there in mileage and stuff. still rund and drives great though. i want to get some kind of lift and lock at least the rear. maybe a snorkel too. thanks for the help guys. appreciate it.

I've been very satisfied with the lift. Granted, I'd like to upgrade to the 1.2 lift at some point, but that's a LONG way off.

you know, i was thinking earlier, would i be better off getting the 1.2 since i plan on getting a roof rack and putting a spare matching tire and wheel up there? ill have that, the biggest hitch you can put on a runner, and i have a lot of tools and a jack and stuff in the back of it. that spare tire though weighs more than or at least close to what a bumper would weigh right?

i like them to stick out on each side some though. i cant stand narrow tires.

However, slightly higher in the rear looks way better than slightly higher in the front (IMO)... and it is better to have the rear higher than the front for offroading.
I don't have an aftermarket rear bumper, but I do have a class III hitch and sliders. I went with the 1.2 and couldn't be happier. Here is a pic of my 4Runner right after the install. The rear has since settled a bit.

If you choose the 1.2 kit, you'll have a bit of rake (rear end sitting higher than the front). However, the LC coils in the rear are great for offroading (they will settle a bit too after some time). Plus, if you decide to add a custom rear bumper and/or other accessories that might add some extra weight to the rear end, it will bring the rear end down a tad. Thus making the vehicle sit closer to a more level stance and not having such a "rake-ish" as before.
If you choose the 7.2 kit, it will sit level right out of the box. However, if you add a custom rear bumper and other heavy accessories, you'll cause the rear to sag a bit below the front, thus not providing as much flex off road.
With that said, you do realize the only difference between the 2 kits, are the rear coils. Meaning, you could opt for the 7.2 kit now and upgrade to the LC coils at a later date. Then your 7.2 kit, magically becomes a 1.2 kit . This was the reason I chose the 7.2 kit over the 1.2 kit.
At the moment, I do not need the extra rear lift the LC coils provide. I know the limits of my 4Runner and don't go places off road I know it can't handle. If I ever manage to save up enough $$ for a custom rear bumper, I'll go with the LC coils at that time. For now, the 7.2 kit meets my needs perfectly.

7.2 sounds right for you, you can always upgrade at a later time like previously stated. I will soon be installing the 7.2

You would be happy with either. The OME springs are stiffer and more progressive than the land cruiser ones, therefore they ride a little more like a truck. However I think you sacrafice a little ride quality and tends to not be as limber off-roading. I have OME 891's and they will hold whatever weight I throw at them. I went camping this summer, with four people, gear, clothes, and towing a 1000 lb Sea-Doo and it sat level.
The downside though is I don't think you can run 33's without a little rubbing or trimming. My 32's work great with mine, however once I was turned and hit a bumb pretty hard and they did rub. But the front of the 1.2 and 7.2 I believe are the same so it might not make much of a difference. My next tires will probably be 33's and I'll just make them fit though.

Ok, I may just go with a 1.2. If I do get another spare, Ill remove my stock one so there goes that extra weight.
I personally like the Marlin Crawler Tacoma bumper too. Ill have to see if I can make it fit. It wont weigh very much more than the stock one if it even weighs more. And that gets rid of the tow package.
