Is the bolt that locks the alternator at that point tight? Is the alternator have any movement?

I broke the adjustment screw on one of my ex's volvo's so I just pulled it as tight as a I could by hand and tightened the set bolt.

what year, motor, type of rig?

If its the 3.0, did u break the bottom adjusting bolt? Or the top bolt? If u broke the top bolt, get a new one, if the bottom, pull tight, and tighten that top bolt to hold it put. I broke the bottom bolt on mine a year ago, and the top bolt has been holding it just fine. I am glad this thread came up tho, cuz I completely forgot about it till now, and should prolly be fixed.

it's a 97 3.4L v6
I'll try to get photos
but the adjuste screw on the bottom snapped in two
top bolt is tight but not tight enough to hold the tension
the set screw for the bottom is still in tact but now in going to need a friend to help me set it if I have to pull it...
in a way I still want to fix it... make it tight cause the squealing is killing me...

why did it all of a sudden start to squeal though? from my previous alt to couple hours on my new alt it was fine..

Hopefully you fixed your broken bolt.....I think my alternator is going, it has a slight squeal when the lights are on, if I load up the the piaa driving lights and headlights and radio, I can hear it even more when at idle, I cant really notice when driving, am I just paranoid? It does have 275,000 I would like to replace it with a new alternator, where can I find a H.O. ?

plenty places to find a H.O. depends what appliucation your planning to use it on.
and yes i replaced the bolt everything is BEAUTIFUL now.
the alt puts out really good voltage and keeps it all stable.
btw alt squeal came from an off alignment of belt. HAHA fixed that real fast with just moving the belt over one groove.. oops.. HAHA
