I have the Downey springs and now I want to install the spacers. I've seen pix at full articulation and there is a lot of room between the spacers and the frame. I'm thinking I can lift the axle up higher on one side and slide them in then repeat for the other side. That's how I installed the springs and it worked well.
Anyone installed the spacers that way? If not what did you use, I'd like to be prepared before I take it all apart.

My brother (custom cruiser) and I installed Downey HD springs on his 94 Runner. The spacer might have a flange on it so slipping it on top of the coil might be hard. On the passenger side I think you could easily fit a spacer on the coil, disconect the sway bar and the shocks and have someone stand on the axle to push it down and then work the spring/spacer back on. The drivers sid on the other hand would not droop as far, but we did it the same and it was a tight fit. You might need to push harder on the axle or maybe use a coil compressor. Why does it not droop as far on the drivers side? It should only take 1/2 hour or so to do so good luck

I put on the downey springs and spacers and didnt use a coil compressor. I did have to use a jack to lift the opposite side i was working on and then stood on the brake drum while somone else put the spring and spacer in.

Good luck, find a decent shop and have them install the spacers is my opinion. I had spacers put on my 95 Taco at first, by a shop. The friggin' springs bent his machine because they are so stout. He said if I ever wanted another set put on a Toyota he was gonna charge me for repairs (to his machine)!

Im pretty sure you can rent a compressor from autozone for like $10. Worth a phonecall....

Be careful with some of those compressors, expecially the ones that compress only one side of the spring, those can let go and send the spring flying with crazy force. Enough force to mess you up if your in the way.

no compressor needed, just disconnect the sway bar and shocks and the axle will spin more than enough side to side to get em in easy.

i rented a compressor also ($40 deposit from AutoZone but got every penny back when i returned it) although we didnt need it. let me know how it goes b/c i will soon be purchasing the spacers also. dont know if i will go with downey or cornfed and want to know how hard it was and if you came into any problems. -- these are after my new SAW's 25mm and shocks.

has anybody changed out their torsion bars or is it best to have a shop do it. a local guy (i guess you would call him my mechanic since i visit his shop every week to fix somthin i cant figure out) said it was hard as hell and you need a special tool just trying to get a game plan together
