Sport edtition skid plate

i have done a search already and have not come up with the answer i needed. i want to put a skid plate like the ones on the 02 sport ed. 4runners on my 99 4runner. i saw on ebay that there are skid plates for 03 tundras, sequoias, and tacomas. will any of these fit on my 4runner? will i have to modify or will the brackets fit right out of the box? any help would be appreciated.

I would order one from your dealer. I think they're about 100 bucks or so.

I put a tacoma skid plate on my 2003, I just had to fab some mounts. In fact I think they're about four or five 4th Gens on this board with this skid plate.

Don't know if you'll need to modify anything, but I'm thinking you won't. About the only thing I can think of that you would need are the brackets, but then again I don't know what you're underside looks like!

Best to wait for a 3rd Gen guy to ring in to be certain though.

From the stealership? If their only $100 I'd be pleasantly surprised and I'll order one.

if you're looking for the skid plate for the 99-02 you'll need the skidplate from a 02' sport edition. for the 96-98 4runners you can use the tacoma skidplate. the tacoma skidplate will not fit 99-02 4runners, brackets are too short. i learned the hard way by buying the tacoma skidplate for my 99, luckily calg3 happen to have the one i needed, and we ended up trading.

Does anyone know if the skid plates for 4runners and Tacoma's are interchangeable? If I had to guess I would say they are but I am not compeltely positive. The best way to find that out would be to call a Toyota dealership and see if they have the same part#. If they are then these will work LINK and it looks like they can be had for $100.

The plate is like $180 from the dealer. Try www.partznet.com for a relatively easy way to look up prices online.

I got mine for 120 on ebay. Just had to reverse the brackets for it to look right.

It is bling bling stuff, but I like it!

I just calld the dealer here in town and he quoted me $179.93 plus tax.

I like the way it looks , but offers no protection at all. I think I will wait untill I do my lift and can afford the trail carnage real skids....

If I could get one for like 70 or so I think I would put it on untill I got lifted and the real skids on...she sure does look nice.

1. Can anyone confirm the correct Toyota part number for a skid plate to fit a '96 SR5 4WD?
2. I have an OME kit on order. Will the factory skid plate look silly once I'm lifted? I don't need protection, I'm just going for a look.

I have some not very good news....

Looks like the current price for aluminum skid plate directly from Toyota is $499.00 + tax. Talking about supply and demand, huh?

I still will have check several other suppliers, hopefully there is a reasonable price out there.

Corect me if I am wrong...The factory (engine) skidplat thet we all have is very differient then this bare metal skid...I might be wrong but, you do not take off the original skid to put this one on..it is in addition to....right?

You say above that a Tacoma skid plate will fit 96-98 4Runners - is this any model tacoma?? Please let me know if a skid plate which is listed to fit a 1999-2004 Tacoma would fit my 96 4Runner. Thanx!

Sorry, read my post again a little closer, but I have no idea if it will fit. Like i said, I would recomend you call a toyota dealership and ask them for the part#'s for the two units and see if they are the same. The actual plate I am pretty sure is the same. The difference would most likely come in with the brackets that mount the plate to the frame.

Sorry, Nolan. I meant to ask that question to gn86r as he seems to know the skidplate fitment compabilities between the Tacoma and 4Runner..... Thanx for the response anyway.

Alright all-

I have been a part of or purchased a total of about ten of these skids. Just keep checking ebay and you should be able to score one for around $100 no prob, sometimes less.

You could also hit up TOR (Todd) and ask him what type of a cut he could give ya...good luck.

Billy
