Split Second TMC1 questions

How does this work and does it advance the timing @ all rpm's.
Can it be used with the APEXi S-AFCII.

The TMC1 was developed as a RFP by TRD. They were looking for a box to solve the HG/LR-Ping with at the time soon to be released 4.7 supercharger kit. TRD went with a different vender and a totally different product then they requested, but anyway;

The good thing is that the TMC1 was already developed and was looking for an application. I suggested that it be marketed as a fix for the HG/LR-Ping problem for the 3.4 V6 Supercharger, so Split Second did. They got a guy with a Taco with a real bad boost induced spark knock problem to bring his truck in. I wrote up an installation guide for that truck that Split Second used to install it and they sent me the second prototype to install in my truck and test.

It is still installed in my 96 to this day working great.

What this thing does is intercepts the signal from the crank position sensor and modifies its signal to trick the ECU into retarding timing.

The timing retard is in a very specific RPM range that the HG/LR-Ping presents, roughly 1500-2800 RPM. There is an adjustment that allows you to adjust the amount of retard so you can tune it to just the amount you need to supress the HG/LR-Ping and no more.

The only drawback to it is that it retards the timing all the time no matter what the engine load even when not in boost. It is however designed to be the lowest cost solution for the HG/LR-Ping. I worked with Split Second to help develop the next product for use with the TRD Supercharger that allows you to have complete 3d control over the timing retard and fuel maps, that is the FTC1. That can be tuned to retard timing ONLY when needed at a given RPM and load and give you complete control over the fuel maps.

You can stop by my web page for more info on the TMC1, just disregard the recommended vender:
