Speedometer + air intake question

My 2nd gen's speedometer needle skyrockets to about 95mph when i'm only at about 55mph. It also twitches during acceleration. Any suggestion on how to get a smooth and accurate reading?

My second question is are there any other alternatives to removing the air silencer? it seems pretty hard to do. Is there anyone near denver colorado who would be interested in helping me do it.? Thanks for all the great feedback i've gotten on my previous threads.

Sounds like you may need a new speedo cable, not sure about your 2nd question!

The speedometer cable goes in to the back of the speedometer, and the other end of the cable goes in to the tranny somewhere. I'm not sure exactly where on 2nd gens, but I'm sure someone that knows will reply. But basically the cable is what drives the needle.

Welcome to the forum by the way!

Actually I take that back (maybe). 2nd gens may not have a speedo cable, but there is a speed sensor that may be causing your problem.

Cehck out the following two threads, it may be more help to you:

Check out the tech section for the airbox mod and ISR (Intake Silence Removal) for the 3.0. The ISR is next on my list and doesn't look too horribly difficult.

When my speed sensor went out the tranny wouldn't shift correctly. It wouldn't let me out of first gear but did not affect the speedo readings.

Mertztr You are correct the 94 and 95's too I believe don't have a speedo cable it's a sensor. I am positive my 94 doesn't but not positive about a 95.. can only assume. 95 Toy you can either do the airbox mod or the ISR mod or both. They are both in the tech section under performance
UK soon to be WA
